I play online 8-ball….I use a basic cue without a lot of power,time…..but I’m at 75 % win and I have won 822/2070 tournament games……the key in my opinion is to not leave a shot to the opponent instead of trying to make shots that you can’t get position….also…pool is the only sport where at times you never get a chance to play….so my win rate is so unusual….it’s been fun….I still learn a lot by watching people like yourself play…thanks!

Makes a lot of sense about which ball to take first on the rail. You’re right, I would have naturally gone with the 3 because of the angle to the 6 but then probably run in trouble getting from the 4 to the 8. Thanks for the insight B!

Great video Brian! Once again want to say how much I (and many others) appreciate how much attention you give to 8 ball strategy. The recent 8 ball World Championship in Puerto Rico was a great opportunity to watch the big dogs play 8 ball instead of rotation. LOL Thank you for the large print about "not a good idea to move the balls around so much." However, same idea as the previous rack, in addition to playing up table being the better choice, having a stopper ball to arrest the movement of the cue ball can be a big boon. Where most players get into trouble is contacting a ball after more distance. You chose close hits to move balls, increasing the chance of them behaving predictably. Great stuff as usual, thanks much Bryan!

These ! I love these ! I think example #2 shows why, when the runout isn't perfectly clear, you need to walk the table and thus disturb your mindset. The 3 looks obvious because of where you're standing but the 6 is "umm, I'll get to it somehow". Moving to the other end of the table then makes the 6 look obvious and the 3, and rest, then follow naturally. I'll pat myself on the back as I'd have shot that same long draw shot to the side, even if it isn't quite in my bag. I'll give that pat up because it wasn't at all clear to me how to runout the one where you nudged the 8 to start. I don't know if Efren had the biggest bag but he certainly has the fullest bag. I am convinced it was magical. Or at least like Doctor Who's TARDIS ! (bigger on the inside than the outside)

I was watching your first rack, like, Huh?! I didn't see the 4, lol. Cause it'd be stop shot on 3, stun over to 7 or 5, then can play either or. But good choice shooting the 2

Another great video, Bryan! I do feel that I'm at a point where the mental side of the game is where I have the most room for growth. I've played off and on over 20 years, and am pretty confident in my shot making skills. When I miss, it's usually from trying to do "too much" with the CB and pulling off some crazy position but hanging the object ball. That said, your videos help so much with the mental game, and are helping me play a smarter rack. I'm very guilty of saving my problem balls in 8 ball, and typically if I lose a rack I start it with a big "lead" and then give it up. I am one of those guys that learned old school teachings from my grandfather, so I LOVE a good safety, so if I have a problem ball I often look to pull off a nice safety and get myself a ball in hand to take care of it. This works for me a lot of the time, but I also feel like I have the skills in my bag to try just running more racks. Mentioned to you recently that I had an Ikon/Revo on the way. It arrived yesterday and just looks and feels incredible. I can't wait to get out and try it soon. Any tips for what shots or drills to run the first time out with a new cue? I haven't had a new one in 20 years! Thanks again 👍

With your new cue start out by just breaking and running some balls off and then try shooting your best draw shots and best follow shots to get a feel for the extremes of where you can hit the ball and what that feels like

@@FXBilliards thanks! It's going to be interesting after shooting with the same maple shaft Lucasi cue for 20+ years and now jumping to an Ikon with Revo shaft. I was excited to see that both shafts are interchangeable with the same UniLock joint - at least that gives me a decent backup shaft in the bag for emergencies until I can get another Revo. Thinking of signing up for your online classes for some more content. Your videos have been great and are much more entertaining than some of the old books I used to rely on (although I do think the 99 critical shots in pool is a pretty great resource). Any chance you'll be at the super billiards expo in April? Would love to meet you. I have a lot of autographs on my case and would love to add yours!

Hey Brian/Bryan, watched your 3 part mental side of pool series yesterday and then destroyed my opponent in apa. I'm a 5(sometimes a 6) in 8 ball and played a 7. He broke dry, I safed myself on the first pot. He made a couple, and failed a defence. Then I ran out rack one. Rack two I broke and ran. Rack three I successful preformed an 8ball break. That got me my three games in the 3/5 race. I feel like you're advice really helps, thanks.

That is a very difficult shot and a low percentage shot. The exact spot??? (cant really tell you) but you do want to sent the CB as close as you can to the corner pocket without scratching there.

Hey Brian love you videos! I have a question about 9 ball. If you have ball in hand place the cue ball get down to shoot then change your mind can you move the cue ball or is it a foul? Had this come up the other day.

Not only can you move it, it is extremely common to move the ball either with your stick or your hand. What you cannot do is have your tip touch the ball.
