Such good advice!! I never heard of anal gland expression with every bath. Wow! The crew looks great!!! And such good dogs ❤

@bethcunningham4346 I was very surprised by that, too. It was their companies policy.

I brushed my blue heelers' teeth, where I mixed bicarbonate soda and water into a thick paste which is absolutely safe for your dog and cleans the teeth nicely
@TheHeelerMamaАй бұрын
Yes! That is great to use for teeth brushing.

My ACD acts crazy when I try to brush his teeth, how do you get them to let you do it 😭
@TheHeelerMamaАй бұрын
When they are babies I start by getting them used to me touching their face and mouth and even using my finger to check their teeth, and then start slowing working with the toothbrush. It can be done with an older dog too but I always day proceed with caution if they have issues with their face being touched. They have dental wipes which can help and it's a little less harsh feeling than the toothbrush.

can you help me on the teeth... stormy does not like her teeth brush. she breaks the brush. what can i do !
@TheHeelerMamaАй бұрын
Is she already comfortable with you checking her teeth with your hands and being able to grab her mouth? That's where I would practice first if she isn't and once she's okay with that you can always try plaque wipes. Not as affective as brushing but it's better than nothing. Those are less harsh and a bit easier to just go around the outside of their teeth with.

Can this breed be kept outdoors all the time in a hot environment? Thanks.
@TheHeelerMamaАй бұрын
No they can not, and no dog should be kept all the time in a hot environment all the time. Dogs can get heat stroke easily and if they are going to be an outside dog they need adequate shelter and ways to be cooled and heated depending on the season.

Could you tell me what I should do to stop my blue from shedding so bad every one says cut her hair but she is a true working dog and my friend
@TheHeelerMamaАй бұрын
@johnnysmith1078 please don't cut her hair or shave her. Their coat is designed to help regulate body temp and help repel dirt. It could really damage her coat. They shed all the time and will blow their coats twice a year. The best thing is to brush weekly and take her to a groomer for a blowout and deshed. If she is a true working dog and out in the elements, please don't cut her hair. You can even brush multiple times a week in small sessions so you don't irritate the skin.

Hey, I'm new here. My wife and I know a couple with a mix, and I believe it is an ACD. We both know her well and have spent time at the property and she absolutely loves us, and our Lab named Alice. Alice is just over 2 years old now. So I'm here because the couple have a couple larger Labs, and they have an australian cattle dog named Gabbie. Just a couple days ago they reached out and asked if we would be willing to take her, or if we were interested. we loved that dog since the day we met her, and shes maybe 8-9 months old, maybe older.. but around that. is there a way I could send you a pic on facebook, Instagram or anything? my names John. basically I was hoping for some more advise. we do not live in a house, but we do own a house on property in a small town that we will be moving to around june. long story. but its got a great size yard.

Hi John! Yes you can send me a message on either or email theheelermama@gmail.com My first cattle dog was around the same age when we took her home from a family that didn't want her anymore so any questions you have I would be more than happy to give my two cents.
