thank you for the clearly explained video! i didn't know the term "lace bite" until today. years ago, i broke my right ankle in a hockey game and still have two screws in the joint. because of the screws, that ankle swells up more than the other. this technique was something i arrived at as well, but i had to skip two sets of eyelets because the swelling was so problematic. i know i should have those screws removed at some point, since the ankle is long healed by now!

I’ve had / have lace bite twice now. right foot pre-covid. Left foot post-covid (right now). For me the best device has been a sponge, yes - a kitchen sponge, on top of the inflamed area. I’ve tried the bunga pads, tongue pads in the “H” shape (sticker and velcro), these little Japanese super soft sticky square, and lacing differently. For today’s game I used the “H” tongue pad, the Japanese square and I had pain. I adde the sponge and the pain went away. I used the sponge > 1 year ago for the right foot and that worked.

Any idea why it's just one side at a time, so strange. I never had a problem with graf skates, .maybe cause the tongues are thicker. I just got True skates, and suffering really bad lace bite on the right foot. Last night I stuffed a sock in there and it helped a lot. I'll try the sponge now though, thanks!

My old 20+ year old skates have no problem. New skates all suck and give me lace bite, and I’ve tried all this bs. Just wish I knew someone who could fix my skates.

Thank you so much for this. One of my feet is about 1/2 size smaller then the other, purchased some new x800 skates and developed horrible lace bite on my smaller foot. Couldn't even walk on it, and tried everything i could find. Was about to cut out the front guard but surprisingly this actually fixed it!

Lace them over and under also.... it puts the pressure on the outside of the boot giving your ankle more room and easier to pad it out. (i have Bauer Vapor X300r)

if you are in the right skate model for your foot shape, lace bite should NEVER be an issue. Lace bite comes from boot depth issues, meaning the instep depth is too shallow for your foot. If the instep depth is high enough for your foot, you will not get lacebite regardless of how you lace them. There are over 20 different lines of skates on the market and realistically only 1 or 2 will fit each person's foot properly. Its just a matter of going to someone who knows what they are doing to look at the person's foot and tell them which line of skates is for them.

Completely not true. I had 2015 1x skates and now I have 2017 1x skates. Same size, same width. I didn't get it in my 2017 ones but had it terribly in my 2015 ones. I think it's more of an issue with how the front of the lower part of our shins are shaped, and how the style of tongue supports it.

Local skate repair shop, who also sews equipment to repair pads and such, says that most retail skates have cheap tongues that breakdown. He recommends thicker tongues. He’s also a big fan of Graf skates. I’m using CCMs which feel incredible when I put them on, but have resulted in lace bite on booth feet now.

it happens alot more in goalie skates . since you need to have forward lean but still be secure.
