I agree! Love how he emphysises the fact that inflammation must be controlled. As a naturopath I have always attempted to look at controlling inflammation in my patients. Inflammation is the root cause of ALL DISEASE, and looking at ways of taking down the inflammation levels is my paramount concern. On a natural level a Medetteranian diet is of great assistance, as is the taking of extra virgin olive 1 tbsn 1 to 3 times a day, as well as curcumin from turmeric 1 to 3 thousand milligrams a day. These also have good blood thinning actions.

Great video Doctor. Thanks for sharing your expertise. I wonder why they don't include an anti-inflammatory component to the newer anticoagulants. I do follow a vegan diet pretty much although I do eat salmon. I do exercise every day and my sleep habits are pretty good. I agree with your thoughts on inflammation. not just for the heart, but for the whole body. Stress is an issue that's a tough one, I'm retired and you would think that stress would be minimal.. NOT, lol. Retirement has its own pitfalls for sure. I'm on Eliquis 5mg 2x daily, seems to be working okay.

It's all inflammation. I don't believe in drugs, meds, chemicals. I had an Afib attack, where my heart went off rhythm, not just increased in pace 3years ago but that''s when I was stressed, overly exhausted, sick with flu and had worked out and drank lots of alcohol. Just 2 weeks ago I had a 7 sec Afib episode and that's because I worked out when I was sickwith covid, I was exhausted, sick, and ate tons of cough drops with aspartame, a trigger for me. The day after as I got better, I had a 3 sec afib paroxysmal episode meaning lighter, which corresponded tome getting better, healthier and stopped eating halls and also for me when I'm mentally stressed or my gut is irritated, my vagus nerve gets agitatiated and that can affect rhythm of heart. So be healthy, workout, eat whole foods, keep stress down and also avoid triggers.

Hi Dr. Gupta! My doctor took me off of Frecainide back in September after 6 yrs of use. He thought my elevated liver enzymes was caused by flecainide use but I told him it’s from weightlifting. It is now December and my afib has worsened-i think I’m long-standing now and Paroxysamal just last month. Is it possible to get back on flecainde or would you recommend trying another drug? BTW, I have chadsvasc2 score of 0. Thanks for any input.

Everybody loves this guy, but he's so full of caveats with every recommendation that by the end of his videos you wonder if it makes sense to believe any of it - "Blood thinners are good, but you still have a high risk of stroke" - "Catheter ablations are a good afib option, but most don't work, and you'll need two or three" - "One video he's convinced that AFIB doesn't cause strokes, that he's not even sure you need blood thinners unless you also have high blood pressure and have diabetes. I could go on and on. He seems like a nice enough guy, but he has no convictions behind his commentary.

I use these videos to educate myself BEFOre I go to the doctor . Then listen to what they have to say and put it in perspective . No two patients are the same .

My AFIB was caused by being hit by lightning in 75. It also blinded me for awhile too. Everything medication wise the drs tried Didn't work. Now I have a Traumatic brain injury suffered from a car wreck in 17 and this June a brain stroke. Things they tried to address the brain issues Negatively affected my heart, so they had to quit those things. The next brain stroke should kill me.

In that same video I believe he said that if you have A-fib your risk of stroke is 5 times greater...but not because of the A-fib...because of other comorbidities (see chad2vasc score); if you are male and your score was 1 or under (2 or under if female) then blood thinners were not really necessary because your risk was relatively low. So, I assume this talk was for those that had comorbidities (scored higher) on that test and thus had that higher (5x) risk.

Is your blood really being thinned or is the blood just not going to coagulated as well because the drug diminishes coagulation.

I think the medication alters the timing of the clotting system . So the blood is not really thinner but there are fewer platelets that will form a clot .

He says in another video that they do not thin your blood and that they should be refered to as anti-coagulants, not blood thinners to avoid the confusion.

THIS is my focus as of late! TRYING to get away from WHAT makes processed food so bad. In a nutshell, too much salt and sugar is THE biggest part of the problem, followed by high carb foods! So, I'm buying more and more veggies in frozen form, and when I do buy canned veggies, like green beans, I get the no salt added versions, or at least, low sodium versions, etc. I am also trying to get used to "whole wheat" breads, NO saturated fat margarines or spreads, or baked goods, and eating more fresh fruit and/or bowls of Raisin Bran instead of cookies, cakes, pies, etc, it is ridiculous how much salt and sugar and FAT is in processed foods, WAY too much!!! :O
