Thank you. Finally someone making these points on YT. I never comment under fragrance reviewers' videos because I would just upset a lot of people. I think "beast mode", "compliment getter", "panty dropper" or "women killer" (seriously, wtf people of YT...) are IMO just hype words and it's just dumb. - Before you, dear random stranger, get triggered, consider this: Every person's skin is biochemically unique. Your skin is the canvas on which the scent is applied and will chemically react with in the end. Every person has a scent naturally, all the time, we just don't (usually) detect them for the very reasons Justin explained in the video. Watching fragrance reviews (IMO) on YT should either be done for pure entertainment, or for finding possible perfumes to test. A Jo Malone cologne (3 sprays) lasted for 13 hours on my arm once, while all I can see on the internet is everyone bashing Jo Malone fragrances for weak performance. So much about the wisdom of the crowd. Well, guess what: How a fragrance "performs" on you will depend not only concentration, but on your skin tone, skin type, your body's biology, what and how you do during the time it's applied, humidity and temperature, and a bunch of other factors. But it'll always be personal. The fragrance will always alter your natural scent, and not buying or buying a perfume blindly because people on the internet wrote that it only lasted 3 hours on them, or 13 hours, is just dumb in general, sorry. Wanting to wear strong and/or long lasting fragrances is 100% fine, it's personal preference (and yeah, there's utility in and situations for a fragrance only lasting for 4-6 hours, too). You do you dear people, but please stop hard-labelling fragrances for their longevity, and do try them before buying a full bottle to see how they work with and on you. Don't fall for hype trains.

Thx a lot for dissecting this topic so precisely! Really good and multi-angled analysis putting everything into perspective. In fact, there are other "rip-off" issues that irritate me more then allegedly creating weak performance on purpose: I perceive a development that some luxury brands keep releasing dozens of fragrances per year (no one can make that much outstanding, innovative etc. new scent profiles in that high rate), use content creators to kindle a hype - and charge prices that simply can´t be covered by quality of the materials, art- or craftsmenship or whatever. You pay for image, exclusiveness and by the way often for scents that are performance only...Thx again for not being part of that (as far as that´s possible) and having your own voice.

It's already happened to the market :| I can't stand most new fragrances especially living in a country where it's 38 degrees Celsius and 30-40%. It started with Dior releasing EDP's, Parfums, and now f*cking Elixirs as literal flankers. They even advertise "intensity" on their site. I spend my money on the classics I trust and give a full wearing before buying a new fragrance. Yes, there are batch variations and changes made to keep certain aspects of the classics profitable and enticing to a younger consumer. It's when Dior neutered Fahrenheit edt to make their parfum the new power bomb the Edt used to be that I stop buying from a perfume house. I'm glad Issey pour homme is my signature. There's an obvious difference between the 2020 and 2018 batches but I blame it on covid and increasingly harder to get ingredients. I really miss the stronger cinnamon note of the older batch but the core of fragrance is in tact and serves it's function.

In this regard (fragrance) what’s unnecessary to you isn’t representing everyone else’s necessity. I say live and let live. Enjoy what you enjoy let others enjoy what they enjoy and what they expect is their prerogative. I don’t think it’s that serious but hey I’m sure I could be wrong.
@DavidBenson2 Жыл бұрын
For the average guy, after scent , I'm sorry to say, performance is the most important thing. 99.9% of men don't carry travel atomizers with them to reapply during the day, they just don't. If it can't be smelled or won't be then there's legitimately no point. It's not more complicated than that imo.
@stayfreshproductions Жыл бұрын
No need to be sorry! It must be said that it's all about choosing the right fragrance for the right occasion. If you need a fragrance to last you the whole day, then don't wear one that you know disappears in 5 hours (assuming olfactory fatigue is not a thing). Similarly to choosing to wear a t-shirt on a hot day rather than a wool sweater--choose the fragrance you know is best for the job. However, not every fragrance needs to last all day, or even an 8-hour work day, to be valid. That's not always necessary. If I put on a fragrance to go out in the evening, I don't need to smell it as I lay down to sleep 5-6 hours later.
@z0han705 Жыл бұрын
Try spraying two or three times in the same spot, this will help with the longevity.
@WSF176 Жыл бұрын
I have probably said it before too but although performance may seem subjective, it is also to a degree differential. What I mean is that I do not buy for one second a fragrance can last 12 plus hours on one person and 30 minutes on another. Just impossible. A fragrance like Pardon may last 12 plus hours on me and maybe 8-10 on someone else. But a formulation and composition like that will never be a fleeting 2 hours scent on anyone else unless they either: 1) have a fake, 2) have gone totally anosmic, 3) sprayed 1/4 of a spray. It will also make a difference where you spray and how many in one spot.

Cant emphasize enough from my experience how much skin and environment effect performance of my fragrances. I live in the Bay Area a few miles away from the water(sea level). Whenever I go visit my family where I'm from in the Reno/Tahoe area (4500+ above sea level) my skin dry's up significantly due to the dry arid climate. Any fragrance be it Dior Homme Parfum, Aventus or Ganymede if I apply it at the beginning of the day I can pretty much cut the time I'll be able to enjoy sillage for the day in half. At altitude my skin from drying up really absorbs fragrances. At sea level those same fragrances will pretty much last me all day. Hydrate drinking plenty of water AND keep your skin moisturized topically on a consistent basis. That's what increases "performance" of any of my fragrances at sea level or at a higher more arid climate. I'd be curious if Ross at TLTG Reviews experiences any differences in performance if he travels outside Colorado to lower more humid environments. Great topic/video Justin👍 CeraVe Scentless Lightweight Lotion for the win.

Generally the frags that get a lot of love and attention online have good performance as it is part of the package. I find for me the more trendy and outlandish a scent is the performance is usually amped up. I also find the more classy and reserved a scent is the scent is sometimes more fleeting or just sits closer to the skin. Which makes sense. A fragrance like Layton for instance is made for compliments projection and a long hang time. Where as a frag like Chanel boy smells classy well put together would never be noticed on the other side of the parking lot but it does it’s job perfectly. If it were loud it would ruin what the fragrance is trying to do.

Interesting experiment read on parfumo: a user abstained from using fragrances for a week (or two?). He picked up more (other) scents during this period and after this period one of his favourite scents that ‘lost the edge’ smelled fresh and deep again as he remembered from years back. Maybe the 5 minute interval stuffing up your nose needs a reset now and then…

The only field I dismiss it is when people tell me the original Creed Aventus (2010-2013) is the same like all others and it's just "olfactory fatigue" (which magically appeared after three years) This said, all this is true and a great point. But the original Creed Aventus has been reformulated and objectively performs trashy, I tried it with multiple people, nit wearing any scents and making tests every 15 and 30 minutes.
