It is one of the best performances of the wonderful and dynamic Symphony "Titan". Both Conductor and Orchestra, raised this symphony in a height, in which the great composer Mahler would like. Many thanks to "avroklassiek".

It is my first occasion to hear a performance conducted by von Stenz. Amazingly artistic with appropriate tempi and without superfluous agogics!
@ComposerInUK
@ComposerInUK 9 жыл бұрын
+notaire2 I like a few agogics, here and there. The second movement is not nearly so thrilling as it might be, the slow movement not quite so moribund. A good performance, I think, but not a memorable one. A few more agogics, perhaps...? :)

Stenz is one of a handful of the extraordinary ones before the public today. Why he never gets a major appointment while Franz Welser-Most gets the Cleveland Orchestra for twenty years is a mystery.

I did not have time to compare in entirety, as I am searching only the last minutes with the horns. Unfortunately, as is the rule it seems, the last movement is entirely too rushed, with much detail in the writing lost, I feel. Compare to the FBS, Seoul, Y. Levi? It seems more interior lines are brought out with the interplay and contrasts more evident. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3KpeGOLjKyso5I

Because a lot of details are incorrect, the third movement is very difficult and is very easy missing a lot of details. I will repeat : it's a good, very good Orchestra, but...........

Hard to imagine that Brahms was still very much alive when this was written. There's no record that I know of that he heard it. I wonder what he would have thought? My guess is not much...
@JohnBorstlap
@JohnBorstlap 8 жыл бұрын
+ComposerInUK From the viewpoint of Brahms, this piece would be considered rambling a bit, but the nature painting and the thematic treatment would certainly earn his approval, and the Schubertian moments B would definitely have loved. The first theme of the first movement was taken from Brahms' 2nd symphony (the descending fourths).

***** Not in the way Mahler writes one but I promise you the main theme is SO memorable it will haunt you. I had to stop listening to it for awhile because the main horn melody implanted itself in my consciousness so deeply it was staying with me at all hours. Even now I can only listen to Rott's masterpiece once at a time.

I really don't like this conductor's interpretation of this piece. He seems driven totally by his own emotional rollercoaster. I don't mind that his tempos, in general, were WAY to fast. I mind that his he was capricious with the Mahler composition.
