This is perhaps my favourite interpretation of Choplns piano consert nr 2. Annas playing is just indecredible in the way she treats this music, speaking of technical skills but most of all about her perhaps intuitive ability to reach the area where she comes really near Chopins intentions with this music. I just adore her playing.

Hmmm, just the opposite here...cheerful, optimistic, Chopin instrospective as usual, but in a bright way...I sense no sadness, gloom or doubt in this timeless composition nor in Anna’s always thoughtful rendition...think of all that Europe endured since the time this piece was born, its beauty today, and all that is to come...if they don’t screw it up...

I have re-discovered this music because of Anna Fedorovas playing. Former, for me this was a nice piano concert by Chopin, beautiful, but also a little bit dull. Now, after listening carefully, I have discovered so many new things about this music. Yes, it is both melancholic and hopeful, yes it is both strong and hesitating, yes it is both vague and direct, yes it is both glad and sad at the same time. Isn´t this how we want music to be? Something we can return to, over and over. I think this beautiful interpretation by Anna Fedorova will be something to come back to, over and over.
@crewelocoman5b1614 жыл бұрын
I find the first concerto in E minor Op. 11 (actually the second to be written) to be the dull one, the passage work being very reminiscent of Hummel's two concertos - apart from the obvious poetic interludes like the second subject - somewhat over long and boring. The piano writing and pianistic discourse in the F minor Concerto is as original and as fine as anything that Chopin was to write later. Liszt was full of praise for the Larghetto, even though he was critical about the balance between soloist and orchestra. The Finale probably doesn't hold one's attention as much as the first and second movements, but for me it is more interesting and original than the Eminor Concerto, which I'm guessing is why Anna has performed this work on many occasions.
@staffanolofsson82014 жыл бұрын

@@crewelocoman5b161 I have now listened to Copins consert no 1 (op 11) with Martha Argerich (from 2010) and I totally agree with you. This is the dull one. And no 2 (op21) is the one full of spirit and inspiration. Perhaps my memory is wrong? It was pehaps op 11 I found a little bit dull in my youth? Anyhow, now I have the second to love!
@crewelocoman5b1614 жыл бұрын
@@staffanolofsson8201 You will find that much of the literature written about these concertos tends to view them as being much the same, and yes there are overall similarities, style, format, orchestral balance, but closer examination demonstrates (for me at least) that the F minor has the more original poetic solo work whereas the Eminor concerto seems to lean more heavily on Hummel's style. Again, we should not too critical of Chopin, his works for Piano and Orchestra were written at age 18/19 and were a necessary requirement for him to make his mark in the public domain. I can recommend Chopin's complete works for piano and orchestra by Claudio Arrau on Philips. Hummel's two piano concertos are also woth investigating and here I can recommend Stephen Hough and the English Chamber Orchestra on Chandos. Both Chopin and Liszt were known to regularly programme Hummel's concertos in their early careers.
@staffanolofsson82014 жыл бұрын
@@crewelocoman5b161 I am not critical at all about Chopins music. At age 18 or 19 many of the best works are composed. Mendelsson composed his wonderful string octet at the age of 16. And then Mozart... For youth there is a golden spoon in reach full of the best fruits. The rest of us can only listen. Thank you for answer, I can see that you know a lot more than me about Chopins music.

The theme of "Anna Fedorova" is still not composed. I wish it will be very soon. In her playing, in her recitals, her charming introductions, her solo piano, playing Chopin and other great composers, her trio playing, she shows what a great musician she is. We can all learn from how you bear yourself at the piano, and how you move yourself with the meaning of the music instead of merely adjusting the body to its technical needs. You are a great teacher through your videos. It is wonderful how you can be sensed to be embracing the music and the piano itself as you play them, as if holding them in your breasts and lap, and feeling the vibrations through your whole body. I do my best to learn from your example. I've got a long way to go, but already it is really helpful in enabling me to play the music more expressively - and more naturally.
@staffanolofsson82014 жыл бұрын
This is the most intimate description of how music and body works together I have ever read, and perhaps it is true. How the piano and the body of the musician become a unit. Posture and so on. But how if the pianist is a man and have no breasts? As a picture of the physical relation between piano and pianist these Susans thoughts are interesting thoughts, I admit. And also the fact that I am a person embracing Anna Fedorovas music, as a listener, so I still wonder if it is her piano or herself I embrace? Or both? Still, Susan is a pianist, I am just a listener...
