This film is excellent in that it conveys a simple story in a perfect manner. Even with the limitations of 50s film, it portrays the story better than anyone could now. Even as a 13 year old American-Indian, this film is one of my all-time favorites. Hats off to the late Raj Kapoor.

For the time when the technology was still in the first step, the true black & white movie with good sound offered a memorable entertainment on Friday or sundays. As I have earlier commented that Raj sir was a great legend of Indian cinema. Unlike today's filmmaker he did not make the films only to earn money. He conveyed the message of what is good and what is wrong .He also tried to send the message the importance of love and romances. He also tried to convey that materialistic acquisition is not a source of real happiness. He also expressed through his films the pain ,emotions, grief, sentiments and agony of common people and poor are not the hurdles for being happy.

Again watched this film after a long time but this time the charm was manifold. I heard every word of the dialogues through headphone. Precious dialogues, different theories about social environment, actions, sittings were unique. The love of Rita and Raju seemed as real. The song (Awara hoon) remained superb in the film.
