This is of course THE key distinction. It is one of the reasons that being in the now and staying present to your body, environment and thoughts is only the first step. Otherwise we stay hypnotized with the content in consciousness. It's going meta only once, when in fact it needs to go further "back". Thank you for the great content!

@@Samanthax1221 Sure thing! First step is to switch attention from the thinking mind to the perceiving mind because thought is too hypnotic and tends to consume all your presence. So you re-gain presence by becoming more aware of the senses and the environment. Once this is becoming stable, you re-gain the seat of the observer which is lost when you're caught in/identified with the content of thought. However this supposed "observer" that you are then becomes the next focus of your investigation and you realize that the observer is an implicit assumption of a mind that creates a false dualism of subject-object. When searching for the observer all you find is unacknowledged contractions in the body driven by fear in the mind and realize that "I" or "me" , your sense of individuality, is made of only that, unconscious fear. If this is observed long enough, the contractions and the fear are "digested" or "metabolized" by the very fact of observing them clearly. When this is done long enough, the illusion of the observer is made redundant. Subject and object collapse into a unity of observation. Hence no-self. The mind cannot understand awareness or anything positive, because it's nature is limited and it's nature is unknowing. The ego lacks understanding as that is ego. It's been awhile since I spoke to you Burt. I love you and I am doing much better.

The past is always in the past, the future is always in the future and so there is only the present or now. Time is not real. Don't break your clock you still need it to make your appointments to fix your problems that you created.
