Sooooo... the AI definetly used to be people right? the one from the etamanaki had the same sign off phrase as the scientist who made the volos engine, and the AI from piranese has the same sign off as the guy eating the apple. (cinema sins logic assures us he was the villain all along)

The AI of different spaceships are designed on the base of some main characters that are presented in the beginning yes...they have also the same voice...is shown in the credits at the end of the game...Giovanni Battista (the guy with the apple) for example is the voice and AI of the Piranesi...very nice touch...

@@dimercamparini Another thing to point out: Every PA you come across is named after a afterlive/paradise - ED(D)EN (Tiqqun), Valhalla (Protagoras) and Naraka (Piranesi). Nataka is pretty much Purgatory where only the strong escape from, Valhalla you have to be chosen to be welcomed into and Eden is kindasorta open for everybody. And please correct me, but the Etemenanki did not have a PA that you interacted with iirc.

@@Arides2010 one of the ships is explicitly said in the game that was run all "manually" by men...no assistance by an AI...yeah I guess it was the Etemenanki, the UN ship...

For your food district you SHOULD adjust the orientation for the farms to face the same direction and the gap next to the main farm building should have say two small food storages for shorter travel time to collect said harvest.

Agreed. There is obviously a subtle delivery mechanic that affects the efficiency of material deliveries, further necessitating optimal building arrangements.

I always put all my farms in a strip 12 squares wide at the bottom of the sector (is PERFECT for 3 complete sets of ALGAE btw, that will carry you to the end of the game feeding 5000 population with the least occupied space possible...), with the main buildings facing UP (and the fields in various configurations to use as much space as possible along the bottom wall)...and then a straight orizontal road over them...and over that MEDIUM (dont use smalls, is just ridiculous middle-late game) containers, facing DOWN, to collect the food. Everything is delivered instantly basically and leaves the upper part of the sector very clean and empty to put other things in different configurations.

I don't think the Piranesi is a rogue AI, its PA is based of Giovanni's consciousness and he was implied to be a scumbag, so nothing rogue here, just working as intended

Hi Nilaus. I have only periodically have been following this series. It seems really interesting. I mean you seem really interested into the game. Your enthusiasm makes me wonder if I should pick it up even though I am not interested in starting a new game at this time. I am currently playing Valheim.

I often find myself adding multiple extra small storages and change their content filters based on what I need fast. For food I count 1 storage per mess hall and 1 extra storage per sector as buffer. 1 storage for each 2 farms in the food district, next to an extra storage as main buffer for the whole ship (so 4 in total set to food). When I build or deconstruct an expensive building or eg. multiple quarters I make sure I have multiple storages set to alloy, to drastically speed things up. Works really well for me.

That is really unnecessarly overcomplicated and overthought...for the food you just put a medium storage decently near the mess hall and that's that (set for life)... For deconstructing building just make sure to have 1 storage of alloy decently empty inside the sector anywhere (you simply dont need all that speed if you are multitasking multiple things at a time in different part of the station...you give a command, do other things elsewhere, and get back a little time later to see the results and do another thing)... Most of all...you basically NEVER use small storages anymore after the beginning of chapter 3...unless we are talking about containing chips (small quantities by their nature) or temporary trash that is immediately going out of the sector to be used elsewhere, they become useless...they are TERRIBLY unefficient in terms of power and workforce used... I dont understand the fascination of not using upgraded things in this game...the game is DESIGNED to use the upgraded version of everything as soon as it becomes available, simply because they are more efficient in power/workforce/space used and they free your pool of limited resources to be used for other things!

@@ErikVanKelst absolute nonsense...I had 1 single large storage for food in my food district and medium storages for food in the other sectors ALL THE TIME with 5k population...never had a problem with food logistics and starving. Space sector with 4 docking bays...1-2 large storages and 4-5 mediums (0 smalls) worked absolutely like a charm...everything is unloades from dock instantly and delivered elsewhere without any problem whatsoever... I dunno your layouts, but what you say is complete nonsense from my perspective (finished the game with over 5k ppl for a lot of time in my station)

I couldn't agree more. If you have a food sector like Nilaus, one storage just can't harvest, distribute and provide the other sectors at the same time, even with 8 transporters unlocked.

When I was being chased by the piranesi, I didn't know how the decoys worked and ended up running in circles with several missiles chasing me. The entire population became angry and eventually they just killed themselves, well the ones who didn't starve. Obviously I figured out how to get the decoys going once I reloaded.

TUTORIAL on how to have a FOOD SECTOR set up at this point of the game (actually, this should be done already in early chapter 3, but still): 1) STUDY ALGAE ASAP after crop farms 2) free a space of 12 squares of heigth all along the bottom and draw a straight road from left to right at the 13th square from the bottom 3) from the left: put vertically a couple of ice melters facing UP at the road 4) after the melters (left to right) put 3 sets of algae farms with the main 4x6 building facing UP at the road, and all the 4x6 fields put under them to fill all the space that you have to get to the bottom wall (the placement is at will, just use all the space cleverly because you can put the fields of 4x6 orizontally or vertically...leave a couple of 4x6 spaces between each farm set because if upgraded they will get 2 fields more each, so you wont have to move them around again) 5) over the orizontal road put 2 MEDIUM containers facing DOWN in front of the algae main buildings you have placed at the other side of the road...this way they INSTANTLY collect the crops of food and storage them for it to be distributed FAST to other sectors. AFTER this initial setup, that is using water (you need to bring ICE in the sector, maybe with a dedicated hangar that you can build in the upper side of the room, and 1-2 LARGE containers to store it) prepare to go basically WATERLESS: 1) research the water treatement center and put it somewhere in the central strip of the sector where all the small additional buildings will go...like condos, +happiness etc. 2) collect wastes from ALL the other sectors with the appropriate policy and funnel them into this one You can have 3 SCENARIOS at this point: a) your station is producing just enough waste to feed the water treatement: you can completely forget about water anymore, delete all the buildings that have become useless (melters, hangars, ecc) b) your station is NOT producing enough wastes: keep 1 single ice melter in case of emergency and fill the tank every now and then...keep bringing in MINIMAL ice...dont pile it up in the thousands. (I would do this anyway just to face temporary unbalances in waste production) c) your station is producing MORE wastes than the waste treatement is using: aligned in the upper section along the upper wall put 4 waste recyclers that produce other kind or resources here and power them up and use them when you see that your wastes are piling up over a certain point (always keep the wastes to get the waste tretement going for the water you need in the farms (4 waste recyclers is because at 4 you get the TIER 1 bonus for industry too...build them even if you dont use them all at the same time...but NOT MORE than 4) You will still have plenty of room in the central section of the sector to put smaller buildings SUPER PRO TIP: when you place the fields of the first 2 algae farms, at some point place 1 vertically near the bottom wall...you will remain with a perfect spot of 4x6 near the upper road to put vertically, facing up, a MESS HALL...perfect placement...then to the right ot this setup you can put another algae farm to complete the set of 3 This will feed more than 5000 ppl (the endgame), if you have less, because you do this setup early, and you see you start piling up too much food (my advice is NEVER go down from a projected usage of food of about 4-5 meals and never go over 7 of them) 1) put the food policy in some sectors in a way that some of your ppl are consuming more food (that you have in abundance at 0 cost) for more happiness all around. 2) if you dont need that or for other reasons...take the power out from 1 of the 3 farms...go down to like 3-4 projected meals, and then re-power the farm up for another bit (BEWARE: they consume a lot of power so check to have it prior to lit them up again, to avoid blackouts)...from chapter 3 and on that will keep your food needs in check forever with true minimal intervention.

It is possible to visit planet again and just tank the damage. Repair more in flight. Someone was saying having decoyes against the swarm, but I didn't find the system yet.

The placement of all farms in the same sector is NOT the problem...actually is absolutely the BEST way of doing it. Moving food through sectors is absolutely NOT a problem if you have enough of it (let say the equivalent of 4-5 meals constantly and without shortages...I used to have 1800 food around my station at every time with 5000 ppl))...the trucks can use 5 cycles to replenish the containers that are not on the sector where the food is produced, that is PLENTY of time (meals are every 5 cycles and besides that the food is not moving 1 bit) His real problem is that he is still using crop farms at this point instead of ALGAE, and he doesnt have the correct layout of farms and containers that must collect the resources from the farms...also at this point he should use a mix of medium and large containers...the smalls are just ridiculous in chapter 4)

it seems I'm doing this chapter wrong. the Piranesi is always the last thing I do here, leaving it alone until I'm ready to move on. Also, I put docks in every sector where the materials are needed instead of transferring everything from sector one. Not sure which is more efficient.

Your way is the actual best way...I did the same too (both things...chap4 and the storaging) But still you need to have 1 sector that is space specced tier 2...with 3 EVAs attached...because it gives a tremendous bonus when you are repairing the hull (just 3 EVAs fully buffed with every bonus possible will be enough to keep the hull perfect up to the end of the game...no need for more, and they are incredibly efficient at that too so using the least alloy possible) So basically the perfect design would be: sector 1 with 3 docks 3 EVAs and 1 probe launcher (tier 2 space)...this you will never touch again in other sectors you can put another couple of docks for transports when needed (for example in a factory sector where the materials are needed and directly consumed to build refined resources...or where you make food if you need the ice for water)...and in chap 4 another probe launcher specifically for the counter-missiles for the Piranesi (that can be destroyed later, no need after chap4)

@@tejing2001 That is correct, I just checked...you repair a little more with the same alloy...not superduper but still...I had only a +5 repair for that bonus. For the most part, up until late when I had a lot of population, in my playthrough I kept that policy at the exact opposite (intense)...to have more workers available. But if you have all your EVAs in 1 place (as 1 should) you can have that policy only for that sector and be even more efficient for that.

I think the only way to do this chapter "wrong" is to immediately go and do the Piranesi research option. It was a *very* obvious big bad enemy trigger so it seemed sensible to avoid it until I had cleared out the whole system.

I think so, but I'm not sure. Although with the transporter upgrades it shouldn't be a problem since you nearly double your number of transporters

Yes...but in the end is absolutely NOT a factor...the whole station can function perfectly in the middle and late game with a combination of just medium and large containers (they are A LOT more efficient in terms of power and workers used...using them will free those resources immediately for other tasks)... When you have better options NEVER use small ones unless they are for resources that are always in small quantities like the electronic chips (or the waste if you are in a sector that produces them but they are transferred elsewhere immediately to do be consumed) Food can be managed completely with mediums...upgrade the small ones ASAP when the population grows.

Yes. Each warehouse has 5 (+ upgrades) workers. A larger warehouse therefore has less throughput compared to 4 small warehouses. I used small stockpiles for the entire game, only building a few medium stockpiles for my recycling sector to hold waste and alloys. Everything else was small stockpiles. I never felt any real need to get drones going, nor did I see any need for a large stockpile. The small stockpiles do use more power and workers for their footprint compared to the larger stockpiles, but by the end of chapter 3, you're swimming in workers and power is hardly a problem if you use waste -> polymer and build out all the solar panels.

@@dimercamparini I don't know about ridiculous - just saying that I used mostly small containers and never had worker or power troubles so it seems like a small problem. If you're having power problems or worker shortages then yes, it is more efficient to upgrade the stockpile size.
