I served aboard a gator frieghter in the Eighties. This may be the best ww2 Navy film I've seen. Would love to see this refurbished in blu ray, Vista Vision films are AMAZING in blu ray or 4k.

After watching this movie about three times now, I finally decided that it's about men and those men who command and those men who follow the commander. Neither one is more important than the other, without order. There's no unity on a battleship.

Hadn't seen this in decades. About all I remembered were the Kamikaze attacks. Jeff Chandler certainly looked the part of a USN ship Captain. Good film.

To me this war movie is extra special to me because I think this was one of Jeff Chandler's best roles and it was so sad when he died in it. He was a great actor who really sadly died so young.

This movie was filmed in 1956. He died in 1961 after his second surgery for a back injury suffered during the filming of Merrill’s Marauders.

My Dad flew a navy wildcat and got his order to deploy to the south pacific and on that day they dropped THE bomb and he was spared any combat duty. He would joke that they surrendered because they heard HE was coming!
