Howdy Folks, this is video number two that I have watched and you both have me wanting to watch more. I can't believe that the many times that I have visited Berlin that I have never had the Berliner at Sammy's, I will fix that on my next trip to Germany lol. I love Doner's, Currywurst, and of course a good schnitzel. I will have to try some at Shnitzelet for sure. I will also have to look for some of the "Muh Muh and Hitschies. Thanks for sharing :).

Nice video, we used to go out the back gate from the Army post-NcNair Barracks (Goertzallee) to a great currywurst stand, in the mid to late 60's we never saw a doner kabab since Turkish immigrants had not come over yet, also had wiener schnitzel many times at Europa Center(is the center still there?) We were restricted some because of the Mauer (Wall), but currywurst ruled in those days, at least for the American Army guys in Berlin, thanks for your video, I would not recognize Berlin anymore, except maybe for the Kudamm

Döner Kebab was invented in Berlin in 1972, so for sure no Kebab in the 60s. That's how the legend goes. But now a turkish snack stand owner claims that he has sold his first Döner in 1969 in Reutlingen, Baden-Württemberg. Europa Center is still standing, because now it stands under protection of historic buildings...

I got imren across the street at Rathaus Neukölln and I never go there..theyre expensive, the staff is unfriendly and the meat tastes weird

"Imren" is a Turkish family name, like "Schmidt" or "Smith" in German and English. So, if you find an "Imren Grill" or "Imren Döner", it's not necessarily related. I wish people would just post the street and house number when they make these suggestions. One of my favorite döner places in Berlin is "K'Ups Gemüsekebap", Kastanienallee 106.

It is NOT just called in Berlin Pfannkuchen & instead pretty much in whole east Germany called Pfannkuchen, just like the traffic lights man isn't unique to Berlin solely as well & so on...

A Donut is actually called Berliner only outside of Berlin. In Berlin it's called Pfannkuchen 😆 but also only without the hole

It's actually called "Berliner Pfannkuchen". That's a bit of a handful, though - so in Berlin, that got shortened to "Pfannkuchen" and outside of Berlin, it got shortened to "Berliner".

If you like Doner Kebab so much as you mentioned it in this video I am inviting you to come to Israel and taste our variety of Doner Kebab (or Shawarma as we call it here), our Shawarma is 2-3 times bigger from the one you ate in Berlin in this video, it's much more tastier, comes without mayonnaise or curry or barbeque sauce and all of this kind of silly and disgusting sauces that the European people are putting inside their Doner Kebab Shawarma. Instead in Israel it comes with Hummus spread, Tahini and spicy peppers Yemenite sauce called "Zhoug". The meat in our Shawarma can be produced from boneless Chicken thighs, veal, mutton, or Female Turkey meat which is the most common. Come on and try it, you won't regret it for sure 😋 ברוכים הבאים!

The story actually goes that it was invented by a Turkish immigrant in Berlin! However, the concept itself (meat vertically roasted on a spit and shaved into bread) probably came way before (maybe Turkey?). Typically I'd agree with your exact sentiment, but... we've learned through our travels sometimes popular places became popular for a good reason! We don't tend to base our decisions solely on a site like TripAdvisor (because we've found views are heavily shaped by Americans who are just looking for their own slice of America in another country).
