The Gordie Howe International Bridge project has made significant progress over the past year, with notable advancements from June 2023 to June 2024. Here are the key developments:
Completion of the Towers: Both the Canadian and US bridge towers have been completed, reaching a height of 220 meters (722 feet) each, with the US tower finishing in August 2023 and the Canadian tower in December 2023.
Bridge Deck Connection: The bridge deck was successfully connected over the Detroit River in June 2024, marking a critical milestone in the construction process. This connection was officially completed during the early hours of June 14, 2024.
Installation of Stay Cables: The installation of stay cables, which support the bridge deck, has been completed, further solidifying the structure's integrity.
Progress on Plazas: The construction of buildings and concrete work in the plazas on both sides of the bridge is well underway, contributing to the overall infrastructure of the project.
Despite this impressive progress, the bridge is still scheduled to open in fall 2025, reflecting the extensive work that remains to be done, including final touches such as signage and lighting.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge will serve as a vital connection between Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario, enhancing trade and travel between the two countries.
