I have one of these. I replaced one of the crystal caps with a trimmer and I can get it perfectly on frequency. It does tend to drift quite a bit with temperature, but hey, I'm not going to complain about that. I set it using the 10MHz from a GPS-disciplined ovened oscillator. At the price, a definite thumbs up.

Yes that's an interesting thing to do. It's just a cheap kit for beginners for soldering practice. I checked it against the Racal Dana counter which has an ultra stable ovenised oscillator. I don't have a GPS disciplined oscillator ATM but will get one, or build one, in the future. Thanks for watching.

Nice to see the ladies taking an interest in electronics other than the finished product. A family member who was female and only 14 or 15 wanted to learn electronics and I really messed up as she lost interest after a very short time. I suspect if I had known about you I could have pointed her to your channel and i think you would have inspired her where I didnt. My soon to be father in law worked at an electronics factory in Coventry England (The GEC) and they found women were much better at putting together relays than men. I suspect their nimble fingers helped. What really surprised me was their soldering skills, today we have temperature controlled soldering irons, plated tips, high quality solder, they used irons that they took a file to when the tip became a problem, temp control? No way the hotter the better one of them told me, as the quicker the more money they made, even with the time restrictions they had, and the irons they used, you would not want to place one of your solder joints along side one of theirs, even today! I was just a young man when my soon to be father in law showed me around his department, what stayed with me to this very day was what one of the young woman told me, the purpose of the need to solder to a high level, and accurately puting relays together quickly was to earn enough money to buy a dress to attract a man so she would never have to pick up a soldering iron again. I thought who is the smarter the one who can make babies and is wise enough to know working 8 till 5 for life isnt the wise thing to do or the one that doesn't? I'm now retired, and I'm thinking that girl could still solder better than me. Keep up the good works sweetheart, you can bring something to electronics I couldnt for half of the population.

That's an interesting story. I enjoy making the videos and hopefully helping others to experiment and learn electronics. There's nothing more satisfying that fixing something yourself. Thanks for watching.

You should add links to the tools you use. I liked the vise/3rd hand thingy plus your soldering iron, solder etc

Had to order myself a leg straightener because of this video and liking that vice too.

It's a very useful tool for both IC's and IC sockets. Turn it over and it does the wider 0.6 inch pitch chips as well. Makes it so much easier to get the chips in the sockets or PCB. The PCB holder is also great, you should get one, lol. Thanks for watching.

It's quite accurate for such a cheap item. Most probably could do with some input conditioning circuitry and some extra function buttons to make it really useful. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

It's amazing what you can buy nowadays. Back in the '70s when I first started in electronics, Radio Shack and Heathkit were the only games in town for kits. What's your next project going to be?

Yes, I think it's amazing how easy it is to obtain millions of different types of components online so easily these days. Also how incredible it is to get a very nicely made printed circuit board for your project from China at hardly any cost instead of having to make do with lashups or veroboard. Next kit will be announced in the next couple of days, most probably as a 'Short' (video) first, then a full build and test a few days later. These simple little kits are really for beginners and soldering practice. We'll do some more involved stuff as time goes on. Thanks for watching.

nice item, shame it does not cover 26-30mhz and doubly sad its from amazon.

It's only a basic (soldering exercise) kit that goes up to 10MHz max. We'll be looking at better frequency counters in a future video. Never had any issues with Amazon. Thanks for watching.
