Finally, someone that restores mid century modern on KZbin is doing a piece that is actually a quality piece.
@ReconstructingEmily2 жыл бұрын
I try. It's not always feasible because people have started looking up things online and want a kidney for them - even in bad condition. Not sure about you but I like having kidneys. I've done a few no brand mcm pieces too. Each piece offers a unique challenge, but I do enjoy the high quality pieces. Usually a lot less broken than the mid to lower pieces. Hope you enjoyed the video!

There's no issue with matching color with your 4 legged kiddos! I consider it a great idea!!! Natural colors and tones are the best, oftentimes. I super appreciate that you returned this dresser to its original glory, probably even better than before!!! I'd proudly own that, for sure!

I love this restoration! I have this exact piece, it's matching head and foot boards, and matching Gentleman's chest. They were my parents's bedroom set purchased new in 1968.

I didn't even think about their being a matching bed set, and just went to look it up. I am not disappointed! They could match basically anything. I bet your set looks stunning! ❤ These are such solid pieces.

We also have this piece, the gentleman's dresser, and a nightstand. We had the headboard, but it was coming apart and ended up at the dump. Our piece like this has a 3-way vanity mirror. Unfortunately, the doors are missing altogether.

@@ReconstructingEmily Hey Emily, im starting a KZbin channel like yours. im a furniture artist. i have a very nice camera but not sure what to do about editing videos. any suggestions?
@ReconstructingEmily2 жыл бұрын
@@jodilynn4347 There's a lot of options out there. I use power director. Others use a variety of programs like Adobe Premier Pro. There are editing programs for Apple. Before you get any program check out which one looks easiest to figure out and watch videos on it. I find everyone's work flow and thought process is different so some programs work better for others. ThinkMedia , VidIQ, and FilmBooth are some of the other channels I watch to get better. They have some starting yt videos as well. Hope this helps!

I’ve often wondered about the price differential between painting and restoration. I’d really rather restore these higher end pieces than paint them and I’m glad you restored this one, it looks great. I don’t think I’ll color match my cats, they have too much orange in them.
@ReconstructingEmily2 жыл бұрын
It really all depends whats trendy and your area. Mid century in my area is very popular. There are several resellers that don't restore, just sell as is, and still sell alot. I know of 5 from just watching Facebook market place. I know some people have great success with painting everything and distressing. Where I grew up a lot of people might think the handles are ugly. Contrasting that, there are atleast two East Lake dressers for sale in my area and the highest one was at $150. Sorry for the dissertation lol. It doesn't match my orange fluffy kitty either. He will just hide under it anyway and pretend nobody can see him 😀

I think it's interesting that I am having the same shift. One of the things that did it for me was removing tinted lacquer finishes that cloud the actual wood underneath. Some pieces I am just in awe at what was hiding under it. I am a huge fan of general finushes gel stain. First time I used it was last year and I questioned every project before that that I had stained. Thank you for your wonderful comment 😊
