Britannic sank in less than an hour, but there were more problems that made it flood faster. 1. The portholes were open, 2. Watertight doors were jammed when the mine hit And 3. It had a bigger hole in the hull which it flooded fast. Compared to Titanic, 1. Portholes were closed because of the cold weather 2. Watertight doors weren’t jammed which made it flood slower 3. The iceberg scraped the sides so it didn’t flood much

After the Titanic sank the Olympic and Britannic were fitted with the correct amount of lifeboats after the Titanic didn't. The watertight compartments were also built to the correct height on the two sister ships, but they didn't work in the Britannic's case. HMHS Britannic was the third and final vessel of the White Star Line's Olympic class of steamships and the second White Star ship to bear the name Britannic. She was the youngest sister of the RMS Olympic and the RMS Titanic and was intended to enter service as a transatlantic passenger liner. She was operated as a hospital ship from 1915 until her sinking near the Greek island of Kea, in the Aegean Sea, in 1916. At the time she was the largest hospital ship in the world. Britannic was launched just before the start of the First World War. She was designed to be the safest of the three ships with design changes made during construction due to lessons learned from the sinking of the Titanic. She was laid up at her builders, Harland and Wolff, in Belfast for many months before being requisitioned as a hospital ship. In 1915 and 1916 she served between the United Kingdom and the Dardanelles. On the morning of 21 November 1916 she was shaken by an explosion caused by a naval mine of the Imperial German Navy near the Greek island of Kea and sank 55 minutes later, killing 30 people. There were 1,066 people on board; the 1,036 survivors were rescued from the water and lifeboats. Britannic was the largest ship lost in the First World War.[3] After the First World War the White Star Line was compensated for the loss of Britannic by the award of SS Bismarck as part of postwar reparations; she entered service as RMS Majestic. The wreck was located and explored by Jacques-Yves Cousteau in 1975. The vessel is the largest intact passenger ship on the seabed.[4] for people who dont know about the britannic
@Railman12254 жыл бұрын
4:24 "Dude, there's a lotta lifeboats on this thing." Well, naturally. The construction of the Britannic was after the sinking of her sister ship Titanic, which caused a change in sea-faring regulations soon after, including the new one that required all ships to have enough lifeboats for everyone aboard, based on the max capacity for the ship. So when the Titanic sank, and these new regulations went out, White Star Line had to edit the Britannic's original design to have enough lifeboats, and those large davits are part of it. Those davits allowed for multiple uses, meaning after one lifeboat was launched, the davits could swing back and pick up the one that was underneath and repeat. Not to mention that they can still launch lifeboats on both sides because of their length, even if the ship takes on a list, a solution to the problem a previous quadruple-stacked ocean liner, the Lusitania, had encountered. After she was torpedoed, she took on such a severe list to starboard(right) that on the port(left) side, lifeboats had to attempt to slide down the side, usually resulting in their destruction as they got ripped apart by the uneven surface, while on the starboard side, several lifeboats tipped on launch, no doubt the list was partially to blame.

That means instead of the forward well deck, the mine hit near the bridge deck where Camodo had stood moments before the ship died. Hey, can you play this simulation on the Wilhelm Gustloff of 1945?

Those davits next to the bridge are called gantry davits
@marcusbaker8303 жыл бұрын
The explosion from the naval mine would be so strong that it slightly warped her frame so her front compartment doors are jammed in full opened position and it created a bubble and a shockwave. the H.M.H.S Britannic then rocked violently and the telegraph wire collapsed due to explosion
@callumlumsdon67383 жыл бұрын
Hey again it is a electrical gantry davit system where it picks up boats, and then swings over. It can be really helpful if the ship is listing, but there is a limit to make sure the passengers and crew stay safe whilst the boat is being launched.
@afriend62864 жыл бұрын
The noise you heard was them trying to close the watertight doors
@movieman1754 жыл бұрын
Depends on the noise you're talking about. The *big* noise he was talking about was the ship hitting the bottom.
@SQUAREHEADSAM19124 жыл бұрын
Actually the doors were jammed and couldn’t close.
@Jonno_B2513 жыл бұрын
That noise was her bow striking the bed while her stern was still above water which is why she started to go backwards - she sank in only 400 feet of water, she was over twice that length

Britannic never was a completed ocean liner, the game shows how she would've been had she survived the war.

You should go out to sea and get lost with OB and Spy (the passengers) and you are the captain of that cruise ship. If the ship sinks you go down with it in full survival mode. So it's basically like the movie Titanic but in stormworks.

6:31, 8:31, the Captain, C.A. Bartlett, was blowing Britannic’s whistle four short times as a signal to get all the crew up from their quarters to the boat deck and get on the lifeboats. In other words, a emergency quarters alarm.
@maxomus34254 жыл бұрын
Did you know that the ship did not launch the life boats until water flooded the bow. They did lower and prepare them tho.

At 6:30, the ship sounded its horns to warn that whatever hit them, that the ship was a hospital ship, and sinking a hospital ship is considered a war crime.
