Watching this again in 2022- holy cow hacks have changed so much. What's really cool is how much every runner contributed just by giving each hack exposure, which has contributed to what we have now, either in inspiring creators or becoming creators themselves. My other takeaway from this video is holy shit, we used to be young. Like, it's crazy to think of a time where hacks didn't use custom music or have crazy gimmicks- that the difficulty came from the placement of kaizo blocks, forcing a more uncomfortable jump, or even a double shell jump as being a "really hard trick" when you see every Mario player doing them consistently both in hacks and in Mario maker daily. It's pretty incredible that the community has come so far.

I'm not a speedrunner, and I don't follow the community, but I watch every single GDQ, and it feels great to donate (even though they never read mine). So I don't understand all the hate. Saying the passion and pride is being taken away is silly, every single event generates more and more money donated. We hit over 2 million this year. That's amazing. It's not a bad thing to see new or different faces. Just because a couple of vets don't show up, doesn't mean the event is now pandering to different audiences, GDQ always was a doorway for Twitch viewers and other gamers. It's a whole new world of gaming I would've never discovered without. I love GDQ, and fuck the haters. Poo's speech at the end of his run was amazing, and he has such a great voice for narrating the run. Even though it seemed like he would kill himself when he was talking, loool! Great run! The skill Mario runners have always blows my mind.

Hey Poo! I unfortunately missed the entirety of AGDQ and didn't have a chance to watch any of the runs live. I just now found time to start catching up, and your run had to be the first thing I watched. This was very, very impressive and just a ton of fun to watch. Not only was this a fantastic run of a difficult hack (played with the pressure of a live audience, no less!), but you made it a fun experience for those of us watching (that goes for everyone on the couch, too!). This run and your general attitude exemplifies what I think makes the speedrunning community great - while it can be seen as competitive (who can get the best times), it's more of a collaborative effort, finding new paths or strats and sharing them to make everyone better. Even more than that, it's a great bonding experience, having a great time working with friends doing something you love. I really liked how you tried to show that to the audience, pausing to show them something cool, explaining how another runner found a faster route, or taking an intentional death to highlight Panga's sadistic qualities. Overall this was just really fun to watch, and I could tell you guys were having a great time. I keep missing the boat on attending any of these events, but I'd really like to show up and hang out more with the community. Hopefully soon I'll get the chance. :)
