Benjamin Orr the bass guitarist for the cars was an underrated singer. You can hear his amazing voice on this song. This song was one of the first to openly depict struggles with mental illness. Just a classic song.

I got married in 1989. She passed away in 2013. This song hits hard. I cry when I hear this song. She was so supportive of me, I can't tell anyone how much because words fail me. I have since remarried, and the new wife is also supportive, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the first one, the mother of my daughters.

This is the first video I ever recall on MTV outwardly depicting mental illness. This was a huge hit, but when you delve into The Cars, you will see that this is probably one of the few serious and subdued songs. The Cars are happy, high energy new wave for the most part. One other exception is one of my favorites. If you are willing to do a double, Moving in Stereo and All Mixed up lead into each other. Two amazing songs that belong back to back. Hope you give them a whirl.

What I see in this video is a young girl who is suffering from mental illness or some drug abuse or both, who is desperate to find someone to help her. This is especially touching to me, having lost a love when I was in my 20's to mental illness, she took her own life because she didn't feel like she was ever going to have the happiness in life that she so desperately sought. Every time I see this video I think of her and choke up. Might be wrong about what this video and song are about but that's how it hits me personally.

They played this at the Live Aid concert. Accompanied by huge screens showing footage of starving Ethiopian kids. With its haunting tone and on point lyrics it certainly hit home. Out of all 80's songs from different artists and styles of that era, This is my number one favorite song of the 80's I mean my top favorite of all time and everytime I hear this song gets me in the mood of calmness and like I'm in a different world, especially when I'm in my car or anybody's car driving in a wet cool 60 degrees weather evening day! And the best part of the song is in the middle of the song where it's just the instrument playing solo and when it does, I like to roll down the window close my eyes and let the cool wind with a little bit of rain gently hit my face especially when I'm having a really hard day or stressful day and this song really helps a lot... Don't get me wrong, all 80's music are so good but this one puts the frosting on top of my cake...

@GinaGeeILuvu - I could be wrong, but I have a feeling you might be surprised by some of the songs Benjamin Orr sang lead: ‘Just What I Needed,’ ‘Bye Bye Love,’ ‘Moving In Stereo/All Mixed Up’ (a song duo that to me best showcases Benjamin’s vocals; I prefer as a song, ‘All Mixed Up,’ but he sounds amazing in both), ‘It’s All I Can Do,’ ‘Candy-O,’ ‘Let’s Go!,’ ‘Cruiser,’ ‘Think It Over’ … I’m sure I’m leaving out songs, but here’s a start! The truth is, anything melodic, Benjamin sang.
