Hey everyone! In this video, we show you some epic underwater footage of some huge rockfish schools. Turning the camera downwards we take a look at the seafloor. This was taken during one of our past jig trips using a GoPro Hero 4 with diving housing.

I have always wondered if those lines were baited hooks, so it just appears to be some rubber tubing to mimic a small bait fish, like a massive sabiki or mackeral rig

Now that to me is a good definition of fishing; not catching but fishing! Thank you for sharing such a unique perspective of the life of a fishing family. How do the rockfish respond to different bait colors? Or patterns? -Bob...
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it Bob. We just mix the different colors on each setup, and in the past have tried to see if one catches more fish than the other. We always seem to get busy catching and caring for the fish and forget to pay attention to the performance. One thing we do notice is old hooks always catch fish. The tubing will get torn and sometimes it will just be a small piece left by the swivel. The fish seem to like those hooks and always bite them.

That how it goes sometimes. We can see them on the meter, and they even chase the gear to the surface but don't bite. Other times they are voracious. I guess that's why its called Fishing.

I am absolutely loving the Rockfish videos. There's something very satisfying about handlining. We don't get those fish over here and I am curious as to their table qualities - obviously you sell them commercially so they must be good to eat? Also it it legal or worthwhile to bait one of the jig hooks to entice that first fish to bite? When we fish for Mackerel here, once one gets on the rest get excited and start a feeding frenzy and you quickly have a full string. Thanks for the videos - they are fantastic.
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Iain. Rockfish is one of our favorites to eat. It is very mild flavored and moist, and you can use it in just about any dish you can think of. It is also a fun fishery to do. It is legal to use bait, but like mackerel once they go on the bite you can't keep up.

Really cool video! Those big boulders look like quite the sinker magnets, how often do you get hung up, and or lose your sinker?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, yes they definitely are! there is a moment during the vid you can see it doing into the crack but pulls free. We typically don't lose too much gear, as we tend to fish midwater. But when the fish are being hook shy, we'll drop to bottom to make the line more slack to try to entice a bite, that's when we lose most weights.
@deathcar

@@EISAlaska Yeah I did notice you hang up that one time. I love to see how active they get once the fish start climbing on the ganglion shaking it around...so cool!

Nice video like your creativity It’s a wonder the unnatural things that will catch fish. A shiny bit of metal,a few feathers tied together , a bit of shell on a hook, how about a white cigarette filter, a piece of tubing the list never stops

Based on what I'm seeing id say that your jigs are custom made, I think if it were me I'd try making one full string of jigs with treble hooks and compare the yield harvest vs. Single hook jigs as a comparison
