This show is for kids with hard life experience, Diana was almost killed by her own native mother who did 6 abortion, but somehow failed with Diana, but than poore little girl was beaten, wasn't fed regularly, she put off cigarettes by her body, and almost drowned her in the bathtub- special!! and than she was thrown on the street on February,in cold Russian winter with broken arm while she was 3 years old! She's not just singing. She's also acting and really emotionally connecting to the music and the lyrics. That smile is when she sings to her friends and bridesmaids talking about the wonderful things she has but I can still see a sadness behind it for the thing she lacks (a mother to share her wedding day with) She just conveys emotion like few others. Hi from France Samantha, another great reaction! A friend who is an otolaryngologist told me that such a voice cannot come out of a child's body, he is sure that Diana is unique. He doesn't even know how it's possible! At 10, her register was already mezzo soprano, her current register is dramatic contralto (D3-D6) the lowest for a female voice and she is only 17 years old! There is a video where she sings in a duet a traditional Russian song with a tenor, in which she sings lower than him! I don't know if anyone has hear this before, not me! Never! I am 62 years old however ....

Diana's story is incredible. She was born to an addict mother, who tried to abort her, nearly drowned her in the bath, was physically brutal to her. At age 3, she was found in the street with a broken arm and taken into care. She was adopted by the woman in the video at 6:50.She was sent for singing lessons at age 5 because she could barely speak, having grown up with addicts. She has won more than 50 singing competitions and is one of only two singers EVER to be declared a National Treasure in Russia.

Splendid reaction!! This is an old wedding ritual song, it's like a puzzle, it consists of phrases taken from ritual songs. Where it is sung in a whisper is like the words of a deceased mother, because in Russia since ancient times it was believed that the river is the border between the world of the living and the dead, as in the mythology of others countries. So the girl-orphan came to the river to tell the mother that she was being given away for the unloved, to a strange family, ask for blessings and cry.

I can't tell you how many people I have seen watch this with no idea what they are hearing - yet being able to get the idea because of the quality of her performance and otherworldly sound here. I love Diana's voice and many of her performances. So far, though, this particular performance is her true standout for me. Her singing, the hand gestures, the staging, and the bonus of all of the judges realizing they still had to hit the button before the performance was over, even though they didn't want to interrupt her, and then all doing it at the same time, add up to a truly mesmerizing watch and listen. I really look forward to seeing what she does as she continues to grow as an artist.

The song is from an old traditional story about an orphaned girl who is supposed to marry someone she doesn't love, so she goes down to the river (the border between the living and the dead) to talk to her mother and get her advice. In the first part her mother is asking why she isn't happy, most of the rest is her explaining her sad situation; at the end she has decided to let the river-spirits carry her away. Sad and melancholy, but beautiful and moving too! A goose-bumps delivering performance! And that somebody who's 'only' in her mid-teens can pull off *such* a *powerful* performance ... amazing! Not quite. In this compilation of Russian folk tales, she is an orphan being given away in marriage to the unloved. She is asking for blessings from her deceased mother for a marriage that will not be a happy one. The children in the yard are playing and laughing, but wondering why the girl is so sad; they are not celebrating. In the boat she is going to her wedding with resignation towards a sad life.
