Wonderful reaction Samantha, I really liked it. In this original song, Angelina's performance is fantastically raw and aggressive with her unique voice, raspy and deep, while she performs fantastic and beautiful tonal scales, which completely captivates you. Angelina's musical eclecticism transcends the ordinary and she always manages to give a unique and passionate vision of her songs, whatever genre they are. It all just depends what the higher ups want to influence with the public in the end. I agree that talent alone does not seem to be what's important in this industry. PR, promotion, connections and props seem to be far more important. If it were just talent, every song on her EP would have been busting up the charts world wide, especially when compared to much of the abject rubbish that rides high on those charts. Like every Angel out there, I hope that her collaboration with someone as massive as Toby would shove that long awaited door wide open for our amazing and incomparable Angelina. She deserves it more than any other living artist

Something I realized many years ago and I found to be true is that promoters decide what will be popular or not. If the music is good or even as a little bit catchy, you can convince people that it is what is popular and it is what people are asking for. They did that when they killed 80's glam rock or what we call Arena Rock and they introduced grunge with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. A lot of the stuff today that we're supposed to believe is what people have demanded in this resulted in the sales has all been orchestrated and driven by promoters. They decide what will be popular and what will be available for purchase.

And rubbish artists that have Official music videos naked and twerking get the billions. There's this new artist who no one ever heard of or even I ever saw on youtube, released her first original a few months ago. Turns out with that first release she got a Grammy. Now tell me that isn't planned... And guess what, the same type of explicit music. Just a teenage singer and massive production and use of autotune and pitch correction and viola Grammy.

Wonderful reaction Samantha! I loved watching your expressions while listening to this amazing performance - it ranged from stunned, to emotional, to joyful. You didn't have to say anything 🙂. But agree - this has the makings of a hit song. So happy about this collaboration with Toby Gad - he's a genius songwriter, she's a musical genius, and they're working together.....and this is just the first example of what they can do. Watch out musical world. This performance was actually a surprise - the Jesse and Friends event was publicized before May 16, but only by listing 3 songwriters and the songs that were going to be performed. No vocalists were announced ahead of time. I was lucky to be among a small (4 total) group of angels who spent $10 each to watch this happen in real time on a livestream from the Hotel Cafe, HOPING that AJ would perform. DID SHE EVER. She and Toby debuted her rendition of If I Were a Boy first, then debuted Bad Valentine. I think the roof was shaking. A few angels are also going to see Toby on June 20, though Angelina may not be there. As always - love your reactions, you are a genuine Angel 😇.

Great reaction Samantha. I think we are all hoping that this song is promoted and people, other than only Angelina fans, hear it. It definitely has hit potential. Official release date of the studio version is not yet known. At the show last month Toby just said “in a few months”. I think we are all also hoping that Angelina will be able to attend Toby’s concert on the 20th to perform If I Were a Boy. She has been in Europe since they performed in London last month. It wasn’t known if she would be back in time for the show. It would be a shame if she couldn’t make it especially because it’s for charity and it’s another great opportunity for exposure and to promote her version of the song.

Toby Gad is a multi Grammy award winning songwriter and producer. He has worked with many of the biggest superstars in the music industry producing award-winning hits. He has recently produced an album of his top songs called Piano Diaries. He invited Angelina to perform If I Were a Boy with him at piano. This song was originally made famous by Beyoncé in 2008, and has received over 600 million views. Most believe Angelina's version is much more intimate and emotional, and she has made it hers. Move over Beyoncé! It is more of a reimagining than a cover. Toby and Angelina also have been working on some original music, the first of which is a pre-release. Bad Valentine is a jazzy, soulful, and powerful song that is perfectly suited for Angelina's voice. I think it has great potential to be a hit! Toby Gad is very influential in the industry and this undoubtedly is a huge break for Angelina.

Great reaction, Samantha. But the extreme amount of background static made it a bit hard to listen to to be honest. I hope that you will be able to rectify it in future reactions 🙂 As far as Angelina's voice goes, there is NO static...LOL She is definitely one of the best female singers to ever set foot on this blue-ish (was bluer before I guess) marble. I am very hopeful that the recorded version of this song may be THE song that puts her on the map once and for all. That being said, they could probably just release it the way we just heard it. WOW, Angelina unleashed the true power in her voice in this one, while still keeping it jazzy, mellow, deep.. speechless here! I think was she's trying to say in the lyrics is that she warned the guy she wouldn't be a "good" valentine because, I think, she expected more from him More passion, more emotion and he didn't deliver. Although she tested him being mean or saying not so very nice things, he just didn't respond as she wished So.. she decided to end things in a rather abrupt way. Genius! Thanks for that info on AJ's non-appearance on Toby's June 20th Vibrato Jazz club set. Seeing I'm 5 minutes away, I was hoping she could make it and I'd attend but alas maybe another. It is a fabulous club, the aura Herb Alpert has created for this venue is a fabulous intimate jazz-soul mecca.

Who is the bad Valentine? Every good story is about development of the characters, preferably with a twist or realization on the way. While in the beginning it sounds like Angelina as the protagonist is cold and bad, we find out as we listen that it is not the case. She wants passion, fire and honesty. He is insincere and self absorbed - not really listening to her. If all passion is lost on his world, who is the bad Valentine? Angelina is a masterful storyteller! Gary

Hello Samantha . . . It was REALLY Great of Toby Gad to allow Me to publish this video for all to Enjoy. As I mentioned in the video and the video description, BAD VALENTINE is an Unreleased ORIGINAL Song and - although Toby chose to perform it this night - he actually did not want this video released initially. But soon after, cell-phone recordings of the performance made their way to KZbin and it seemed to be everywhere, although Not Anywhere close to this Quality - what you see here is the actual Live Stream of the evening at The Hotel Cafe, where Toby and Angelina performed a few songs as part of the JESSE ANS FRIENDs podcast. BAD VALENTINE followed her performance of IF I WERE A BOY, another huge hit co-wrote by Toby and famously sung by Beyonce. After a number of weeks passed following this performance, Toby allowed me to publish this video, which allows the listener to fully appreciate Angelina's performance by offering the Clearest sound, better than any other version on KZbin by far. 😇Jim
