395 weighs about 205,000 #. Maybe down to 135,000 to 145,000 with the counterweight, little mast, and bucket removed. I like those Cozad (Tom Pistachio) trailers and Murrays (Chaz Murray) trailers, they don't permit well going East but they are excellent design and provide a much lower empty weight than a 13 axle rig does to end up grossing the same but puts more payload on the truck out West. I ran 13 axle traffic in 32 states for about 10 years before I retired. It was mostly drill rigs and transformers with the occasional trac-hoe mixed in. I worked with a lady pilot car driver who had been a bullhauler before she went to the pilot car, she was a feisty lady. One day when we stopped to eat, the waitress was a smart a$$ for no apparent reason. My pilot car lady super glued the plates, the silverware, the glasses and cups,......and the tip to the table. You gotta watch those lady bullhaulers!

Its interesting to watch this haul which is done the familiar way for North America (Cozad with Jeep type add on trailer groups) and compare it to Europe and the type of trailers and of course trucks used. I think the main thing is the lack of maneuvering room in Europe, hence the COEs of course but also the common use of shorter length but maneuverable multi axle individual wheel steerable trailers and 4 axle Trucks. And yeah that is a nice truck, for a Freightliner.

Different country, different rules They do it maybe because there is a law where each axle must be separated in particular distance I think norway/sweden had similar law, where their trailer are longer when in load, and shorten when empty

Some states in the USA have strict bridge laws. It is a term used to spread out the weight per axle.

@@scruffy6151 EU are also rules per axle weight. But you never see that long of a lowboy here, no need for it .
@princeofdeath76964 жыл бұрын
They use those to spread the weight of the load more evenly over the Axles , 1 it helps them be in compliance with Bridge Law, Google it, 2 its to not destroy the roadways with excessive weight. That machine when transported like that is at least 150,000 lbs.

So, what does it weigh with the counterweight, the small stick, and the bucket, removed? It looks like one of Chaz Murrays or Tom Pistachio's trailers, it's Tom's trailer. Good equipment but difficult to permit going East. I mostly pulled a Seibert 9 axle trailer with a hundred ton deck. It could go into California because it has a walking bean last tridem.

@AwesomeEarthmovers4 жыл бұрын
Morello Crane I really don’t know why you would consider tracks to not be a strong connection point as they are designed to handle greater forces than a chain link that’s attached to them. It’s possible that it’s a catch all rule as tracks on older equipment may be vulnerable to slipping off the idler.
@CrusaderSports2504 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't matter where it was chained to if that thing decided to move it would move!, its almost in the doesn't need fixed down category.
@robert73rodriguez4 жыл бұрын
That's how I have always chained them up from the track also and if you look on a decal on a dozer it shows you to tie down from the track but we also had a DOT officer hand out a citation to one of our drivers for chaining a 320 from the tracks. We drive for a CAT dealer. I think it depends on the DOT officer mood

American floats ( low boys ) really look cumbersome. How they have to split the gooseneck and the trailer just to load always amazes me. What’s wrong with simple ramps and a deck widening
@mlo5272 жыл бұрын
You are comparing a low boy with a standard deck trailer. Two different things and purposes. A low boy keeps the load low for clearance. If it’s on a standard deck it will be too tall. If you have a low boy style trailer you do not want to load it from the rear. Going over the wheels and the back hump in a huge tractor would be a nightmare.
