Those forklift drivers are some g's! Especially that guy in the blue t-shirt. The speed and skill with which they move those trench plates is insane. Practice practice practice, or as they call it work.

I like the way they painted the cylinder barrels black. It breaks up so many square feet of yellow and really pops. I was afraid it was going to run over a fork lift and not even know it. I'd like to have been the salesman that closed that deal. Bet they don't sell one of those everyday. Bucket looks like it's going to load shot rock somewhere. What a machine!
@watchthe1369

That semi truck at the door puts it into scale... The forklifts are rentals, along with the trench plates. The drivers are hired on part-time and do not fall under OSHA guidelines from what I understand... This is where everyone is responsible for his own saftey and is watching to make sure he does not kill anyone as well. It works, convention after convention and there is no accidents. Probably because no one is complacent from long familiarity with operators.

Yup, work this big really multiplies the "give-a-fuck" factor of everyone working the gig, and going non-union and per-job contract work gets things done significantly quicker and more efficiently than the barrage of guidelines and employee policies and what not that slow this sort of stuff down. I've worked a few gigs - nothing quite like this of course, just some concerts & wrestling shows - and, frankly, the workers prefer it this way too, since we don't have the guidelines slowing US down either. I get the feeling that the efficiency created by this mutual benefit and the pretty consistent safety record of these things leads the government organizations like OSHA to overlook a lot of the stuff that they could most certainly nit-pick about it. It only takes a couple incidents that make headline news to bring the dogs out though, and I think that everyone involved is mostly aware of this. Like walking on egg shells - as quickly and efficiently as you can, lol

Fork truck operators should work the opposite way. Drop the furthest steel plate on the far side (left) and then the near side. Avoids the extra travel time and speeds up the process. (around 2:22)

@@kingmichaeln1 Oh heck no I'm not a rigger. I'm just in a business where these kinds of expos are pretty routine. It's a great way to see all the latest toys, and if one happens to catch your eye as being something your lab might need, you take a business card and set up a vendor deal with 'em. Admittedly, in my business, the machines are a whole lot *SMALLER* than this behemoth...

You've never seen a convention load in and load out. There are probably another 20 forks rolling around there. They know what they are doing and have a minimum of a couple hundred hours before the company ever hires them. You never see the other workers in the video because they know to stay away. Depending on the time of year, a full load of safety gear in Las Vegas is actually a safety hazard in itself, the weight and extra exertion will give you a heat injury more often than not. The fork operators are like old cowboys, they do not get out of their machines any more than a cowboy will get off his horse, so most of the worries are moot there too.
@RyTrapp0
@RyTrapp0 5 жыл бұрын
Independent contractor work - everyone knows EXACTLY what they're signing up for, getting into this kind of work is typically word of mouth so I can't imagine that there's much of anyone that just gets into it blind, and, frankly, the ability to ignore a LOT of the typical safety regulations and employee working condition standards is not only mutually beneficial for both the employees(you want to get in, get the fuck to work, and get out as quickly and safely as possible - this isn't any kind of every-hour-smoke-break kind of work. Also, flat rate pay not hourly, you get a fixed check for each day worked) and the facility/organizers, but it is what allows these events to both get setup and torn down extraordinarily quickly and efficiently.

you must not know about weight displacement my friend. Thats the beauty of track machines. The width and length of those tracks would allow that machine to cross an ordinary roadway without doing any damage. I regular triaxle dump truck weighing 40 tons would do more damage on footings than a tracked machine of this size. All the weight is distributed to each track and the length of the tracks and width.

CAT DIESEL POWER You would be disappointed. It isn't as powerful as you think it should be. Also the controls are a little weird, you can't boom up and curl the stick at the same time. It takes a little getting used to. Digging level takes some getting used to as well. You're up on a 20ft tall bench, looking down from a high angle. You'll think you're level until you get down on the ground. What looks like just a small high spot or hole is a hell of a lot bigger on the ground.
