George Mcdonald has been cutting turf since the mid 70's. The turf is dried and used for home heating. I had a go at it myself and it's not as easy as it looks! #traditional #history #tractors

For others who want to know: peat is one of the things that make scotch so yummy. Burn peat to dry malted barley, and it imparts a very smokey flavor to the barley, which survives distillation and aging and you smell and taste in the glass.

C’est tellement agréable le Wiskey tourbé ! Et quoi de plus enivrant que le parfum d’un feu de tourbe ? ? ? 😊

For others that want to know. Turf is used as the main component for substrate. It can take a lot of water and remain quite air permeable, which is very useful for potted plants and for agriculture in whole.

For those of us in the US who have no concept of this, the Bog is the source of peat. The peoples of Great Britain and Ireland have been cutting peat for centuries.

That's what I thought. They are calling it turf as we would call it peat.

If you look one google maps, I found an old peat bog near betterton Maryland as a kid. You can see where they cut the peat out. I was boggled at the time. I couldn’t figure out what the trenches were. Peat bogs, who would have thunk it :)

Des tourbières il en existait partout en Europe dont en France, mais avec des gisements beaucoup moins importants qu’en Irlande. Il faut dire que pour que cette tourbe se réalise il faut une grande humidité et des milliers d’années . . .

I bet that's quite heavy on the arms after a few loads. Fair play to that bloke he reminds me of my 87 year old grandfather who still cuts and chops his own logs and he has a 48 year old fordson major with a winch to help him with the heavier logs.

Wouldnt it be a lot labour intensive to cut peat and stack directly onto pallets ? Then position pallets .

Ferguson or Ford? Or is it some foreign brand of tractor? Looks similar to our pair of Ferguson TO-35s but I am fairly certain there were predecessors to these models that were developed in Europe

This older gentleman is working harder than 60% of most people, if you don’t have a pace like this old man than you’re doing something wrong. Get up and get some bread
