Zooropa has got to be one of the best albums by U2. This song, "First Time," "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car" timeless, SHEER BEAUTY

Sometimes the beauty of poetry is that it doesn't directly "mean" anything. Of all the lines from this song (which I have listened to continuously since the 90s), I especially like these: "From father to son...in one life...has begun...a work...that's never done. Father to son." and "Love...it won't last kissing time".

I agree. When it’s not specific but open, suggestive.

This little falsetto bridge: "from father to son In one life has begun..." is so understated and exceedingly beautiful. Sometimes it seems to me these few words, interjecting almost unannounced then giving way without persisting or really altering the course of the song are not just the surprising centre of this relatively obscure U2 song, but are the summarising core of the bands whole life. There's really nothing quite like that bridge that barley belongs here in their whole body of work... and yet it seems to say all of it with astonishing beauty and brevity... and then it's gone.

Powerful and poignant, in ultra ulterior ways aside from U2’s initial intent .. “You can’t seem to remember, what I’m trying to forget..” Genius. Plain & simple.

Love it, and yes - thank you. Beautiful. ...if you love Bono like I do, please join us on facebook at the BONO AND MONSANTO FORUM TO COMPOSE AN OPEN LETTER asking Bono to either distance himself from supporting Monsanto and Cargill in Africa or to speak explicitly about why he believes GMOs are the only or best way to solve the world's starvation and food distribution problem. We want to think he can be a venture capitalist and still be cool.

This song is about Charles Bukowski,apparently.although I love U2 their lyrics can be...meaningless,especially at the first or 60th time of listening lol.anyway here is another song about Bukowski that is at least more direct :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWWtnYl5ZcmCf9U
@bodhiyoga94657 жыл бұрын
EQ2snorkle Of course it’s about Charles Burkowski. The lyrics aren’t meaningless at all. Listen to them carefully. It’s about a young man with serious Daddy issues confronting his father, and the words you hear in the song are the father’s response. It’s soo poetic and beautiful and heartbreaking 💔 And it is sung with a sense of hopelessness that characterises so many fathers that failed their children. Truly gut wrenching stuff. One of the saddest songs ever. “I’m in you, more so when they put me in the ground.”
@javiceres5 жыл бұрын
EQ2snorkle I think it’s clearly about Bono’s father.
