You can self host from home and use ddclient and you can get your ip removed from the block list the hard part is getting rDNS setup which you can kind of fudge with PTR dns records

Great video again Brian, Even though I am not going to be implementing this at the moment, it is awesome to know about and would definitely use it if I was to change my email hosting provider. Also something great to offer clients if they are just looking for setting up email and aren't part of the Google or MS ecosystems.

So its like an equivalent of Google Workspaces which we re already running. What you didn t mention is the amount of free space each user has. So questions are: -user's space -Can a user has alias to those emails? -Can you forward emails of an existent user to another one? -Does this service provide a cloud drive where users can share files? -Does it have a notificatin center where you can monitor user's activities? PS I have an idea for a video of yours. Setup 2-3 Zentyal servers, one for DHCP/DNS/AD, another one for File and (mandatory) Printer sharing.All clients running Windows. The third one probably isnt possible yet since I cant think of a way a linux server running windows instances, so act like an RDP server.
@AwesomeOpenSource5 ай бұрын
This is email only (purely mail), so no shared cloud space. It's really just for email. The creator doesn't specify a quota, but he has some verbiage around excessive usage making professional pricing more valuable. As to the exact amounts I don't know. I do remember forwarding to other emails being in there, but not sure on aliases.

Personally, my only concern with 3rd party email is privacy, while I'm not doing anything that will make the police come to my door... I think its well known how gmail reads the emails and i think outlook even checked an encrypted zip file from a security researcher? Will definitely give this a try anyway, tried hosting my own and it worked but feels like security will be a pain in the ass

I agree, sadly email is one of the most commonly used communications we still have today.

Mail is one of the few things I don’t self-host. Most people like MS Outlook and Exchange sever features which is very hard to replicate without Exchange and self-hosting / licensing Exchange is a security and cost nightmare. I just stick with O365 for these needs. It’s not free, but it’s not terrible either in terms of cost.
@AwesomeOpenSource5 ай бұрын
Totally understand. There are some great services out there for this type of thing. I'd say, maybe look at the NextCloud hosted offering if you ever want to ditch the rest of MS, and then pair that with a service like ProtonMail.

No-Ip and presumably others offer smtp proxy services so you can host your own incoming mail server and still have reliable outgoing service.

dynamic IPs get auto blocked by many large mail servers. This is why people report having issues in the first place. Self hosting email is fine... the first step is buy a static IP

What is a good solution for backing up multiple huge email inboxes?
@AwesomeOpenSource5 ай бұрын
Where are the email inboxes? Generally the service will have a backup of some sort. If self hosted, you need to know what you're using for the various parts, then we can figure out how to back them up.

I like open source but putting my trust in a one person LLC? I am not sure where the sevice is hosted neither sure what backup solutions are used (what if disaster strikes in a single datacenter, or is it his garage?). This looks very vulnerable giving the missing info. From a European standpoint the location as also encryption of the data is an extra concern. Maybe you should further look into this service, as also you could make a compare to simular services. Keep up, I do like your channel!

It's just a headache I want to avoid, and allow others to avoid if possible. Anyone is free to use what they want, of course. If it works for you, then use it. Nothing wrong with that.
