Zippo lighter restoration Harley Davidson AWESOME Gold plated 24 carat edition with amazing outcome!
This Zippo lighter is not very old. One of my fans here on KZbin sent it to me from US. He wrote that he lost it at a Bike festival a few years back and that he found it two years later at the same camp where he uses to have his tent. I think that he is going to be very surprised when he sees this restoration video.
RESTORATION PROCESS
I always start with WD40 rust remover. Just to be safe. This zippo lighter inner case was stuck in the zippo bottom case. I had a really hard time separate those two parts from each other. I chosed to sandblast the metal emblem and used my Dremel 3000 mini drill to polish the lighter inner and outer case. After I have cleaned the parts I electroplated the Harley Davidson metal emblem with nickel to make the metal susceptible for the gold plating. I plated emblem with 24 carat of gold many times to achieve a beautiful thick layer of gold.

In this video I also describe how to change wick, fill fluid and flint on your Zippo lighter.
Please subscribe if you want to see more cool upcoming restoration projects 🙂 And DON’T FORGET TO SEE the Vietnamese army gun oil bottle restoration: • AK 47 Gun Oil Bottle R...
Music: From KZbin free audio library.
Thanks for watching my restoration video. See you soon and stay safe.
Best wishes, Martin.

You left out how to put the emblem back on the lighter. Superglue?

Check out "deep creep" penetrant spray by seafoam. That stuff makes wd-40 seem like water when it comes to getting through rust and getting things loose.

Awesome results, great job! Not to be petty but you left out how you attached the emblem at the end....epoxy? JB Weld? Just kind of curious because that's the only thing I could imagine giving you any issues going forward? I'm sure you did it right but I'm curious how it was attached. Thanks!

I sure wish that you could restore some gold plated costume jewelry that has worn the plating off through the years- it’s really a lost art. You did such an awesome job with the “beyond hope” Zippo. I’m sure that the owner was crying tears of joy upon its completion. You are amazing!!!

I did this exact thing maybe about 5 years ago now. I found these 2 old Zippo Lighters underneath a bunch of crap and they were both rusted to hell. Fortunately they weren't completely rusted otherwise it would have been a waste of my time. Now I didn't have the knowledge that you do with these things or the fancy tools and equipment either. So I had to make use of what I had, toothbrushes, a wire brush wheel you put in a drill, steel wool, WD-40 and other cleaning products. But eventually I got it all cleaned up and replaced all the rotten wool, pad, wick, flint and to thos day I still have both these lighters and they still work perfectly. I've even restored a few other Zippo lighter since then for other people. Only difference is on the lot more experienced now than I was back there when I did my first 2. So where was the great job you did on that Harley Davidson lighter and it looks a million dollar's. Well done, love from Australia ❤❤🇦🇺🇦🇺
