The Masked Dedede battle in Super Star Ultra was technically the final showdown against Dedede since this is the very last fight in the main line games where Dedede was at his own senses. After that, in every main game, Dedede was either controlled, cloned or possessed.

To add to that, I find it fitting in a way because in that fight he even says that "our grudge will be settled at last" afterwards they started to become allies to each other which I find endearing. The fact that the only times they fought afterwards were him not being himself I think shows they're growth in friendship. I like it.
