I'm from Minnesota, hey!! So glad you came back here!! Yeah the security has been stricter now due to so much crime at the malls especially Mall of America if you read up on the latest news here. Sometimes it can be misunderstandings or arrogance but I hope you stay safe and warm here. Supposed to get colder. I have loved watching your vlogs for years now!

According to AI, If the Mall of America staff asks to see your ID, it's generally a good idea to comply to avoid any issues. They might ask for identification to ensure the safety and security of everyone in the mall. If you're uncomfortable or unsure, you can politely ask why they need to see your ID and decide based on their response. If you still feel uneasy, you can request to speak with a manager or contact local law enforcement for guidance.

According to AI, filming inside the Mall of America might violate their policy. Many malls have rules against filming for security and privacy reasons. It's a good idea to check with the mall's management or security team to get clarity on their specific policies regarding filming inside the premises. To me he obviously wasn’t filming to case the joint so even after seeing the travel channel the ID part felt so unnecessary unless it was just part of the training, but even still they could have communicated that to make it less awkward for the patrons and include that in the training too

Malls are always difficult. I had permission from the mall manager when I was filming b-roll for the city and still had security come up and bother me every 2 seconds. I had a tripod and a big camera, so a little less creepy than a phone or pocket style camera. All I had to do was drop the name of the mall manager and security backed away. lol I didn't have to prove who I was. That's about the only perk of being a female working in video production. People don't see me as a threat but they also don't take me seriously, so it's very frustrating either way.
@Locoboy5150Ай бұрын
Thank you for the video and for explaining that rather strange experience from your perspective. Since you have not been to a foreign country before and you are making big plans to head overseas in 2025, consider that weird experience at the Mall Of America as a sort of pre-show of what you might expect in other countries outside of the US when you film anything. I am a shutterbug so I take my camera everywhere that I travel to, which has included places far from the US. In some countries my camera has attracted all kinds of reactions from people, some of it not too nice. It seems that outside of the US, cameras are seen as more of a danger to the public than a loaded gun or so it seems from my perspective. There have been a few examples of where I was just simply taking photos of what I was eating in a restaurant and the employees freaked out and demanded (rather rudely I might add) that I put my camera away immediately. My camera has also generated quite an interest from airport security employees at foreign airports as well, which has lead to somewhat detailed question and answer sessions off to the side of the security line. (Note that airport employees in some foreign countries make US airport employees seem as cheery as Disneyland Cast Members. To call some airport employees outside of the US "rude jerks" would be a total and complete understatement.) Now, keep in mind that my camera, a Nikon F-100, is a 35 mm SLR film camera. If I were doing something dangerous with it, it would make complete sense to use a digital camera instead so that I could have instant access to the photos. Most likely I would not be using a film camera since it takes quite some time to develop the film and them process the photos. But, when I am in a foreign country, I have learned to not question the "logic" of their rules and just go with the flow, no matter how utterly insane it might be to my American perspective. As another example of experiencing weird camera rules overseas, my most recent trip was to Shanghai Disneyland in June 2024 and the security Cast Member there at the Main Gate would not allow me to take my camera flash into the park. They did not have any problem with my camera or its lenses, just with the flash attachment. They kindly held it in the security office for me for the day free of charge and I picked it up later on my way out, but it was still a little strange as I have never had any problem with taking my camera's flash into any of the other Disney theme parks and I have been to them all. (I went to Shanghai Disneyland before in 2016 right after its grand opening and they did not have any problem at all with my camera flash back then.) Also note that after they took my flash and I went into Shanghai Disneyland, I saw countless people using the flashes on their cell phones to take photos throughout the park during my three days there. The moral is often you cannot make any sense of the camera rules overseas so I don't even try to so I just go with the flow. So, I don't want to scare you away from venturing far outside of the US Adam but just be aware that cameras might be perceived in a different way once you leave home. I just chalk it up to, as you so eloquently put it, "all part of the experience."

1) The Mall of America has a Bloomington Police station in it with about a dozen officers stationed there full time. Adam was probably questioned by them, not mall security. That's a much different situation 2) MOA has been directly mentioned by terrorist groups in the past few years as a potential target. A single man filming might understandably make them take notice. It sounds like they were doing their job to keep this large tourist attraction safe, as awkward as it might have been, and did so professionally.

You have to look at it from a different perspective. Adam is filming a lot of people that don’t know who he is, what he does, or that he is indeed a good person with zero bad intent. It takes one complaint from a patron at the mall that day, witch could have been a concerned parent (or just a nosey Karen). If I didn’t know who Adam was and saw him what appeared to be filming my kids/family I would be concerned at the very least. We have to remember that not everyone is good. In a time where robberies and mass shootings and just (for lack of a better term) some really creepy people (inappropriate pictures/filming in public places) a security team is often the first people to encounter issues like these. Now remember, you are NOT required by law to provide your information to someone that is not law enforcement but talking with them and showing you don’t have bad intentions will never hurt. That being said, they can ask you to leave if you refuse to when they ask. Adam, I am sorry this experience left a bad taste in your mouth. I’m hoping that this was simply a employee doing their job either after a complaint or after observing a person by themselves filming their surroundings and people they are not with. Most people take pictures or film family or themselves not their surroundings. I personally have not come across a vlogger in my personal life, but can imagine it would throw off for a moment. Keep up the amazing content, please don’t let this interaction ruin your perspective on the security industry.

Then you must also know that a security guard’s duty is only to observe and report. Harassment by demanding ID is unprofessional and worthy of revoking their guard card
@Ofc.vetroneАй бұрын
@ there is a big difference between asking for name and ID and demanding. Adam stated that they asked him for his ID. Security also enforces property/client rules and regulations, they absolutely have the right to ask you questions about your visit. You are NOT required to answer them. They are not allowed to demand ID or information that is not ok. Depending on state specific regulations security can do far more than just observe.
@bpjbpАй бұрын
@@Ofc.vetrone Wrong. They didn't ask. And they cannot do "far more". Regardless, mall cops have no business with anyone's ID. No "regulations" entitle them to it. This was harassment with intimidation. She overstepped her authority.
@Ofc.vetroneАй бұрын
@ a private citizen can ask you for your ID…. And just like the security guard you have every right to tell them no. They can still ask. I can ask you any silly question I want as long as it is not offensive or derogatory, and you can tell me to piss off and kick rocks… Without video or him stating other than they “asked for my ID and where I came from and going” it does not appear to be any legal over stepping. But just as much as I can ask silly things you have every right to believe they over stepped… again we weren’t there.
@bpjbpАй бұрын
@@Ofc.vetrone You're still stuck on claiming they asked. They did not ask. And they cannot do "far more" than observe and report. Someone wearing a law enforcement-like uniform with a badge gives the impression of authority, like you must obey them. For one of these to not be clear in their intent is misrepresenation of their authority. Such intimidation is harassment. Mall cops have ZERO authority other than ask you to leave the property if the property owner authorized them. This did not happen.

MOA has had some issues lately, and it probably didn’t help that we just had a state wide Amber alert the previous day.

So MN then concludes that all men with cameras must be participating in child abductions? Yikes.

Unfortunately im sure its due to all the "influencers" who have visited that mall and caused trouble that made security interrogate you. Instead of saying you cant film they mightve wanted to check out your channel and make sure you werent there to cause trouble. Kind of like how at Disney anyone and everyone is taking pictures and videos, but ive seen problematic youtubers/streamers/etc being kicked out and trespassed even for doing nothing wrong. Either way it sucks.

I remember looking at MOA's media policy recently and they do have a few rules you may have fallen under. They have some rules against things like livestreaming and professional equiptment, so it's possibly they may have thought you were a livestreamer or maybe if you were using your camera instead of your phone, that may have alerted them.

Excellent Vlog, Also what you have to understand is that the security were only doing there job. 50+ year old single male going round Family attractions filming does seem like a weird thing to do to a vast majority of people. If you look at it from the outside and as a parent it is the perfect excuse for a perverted person to travel the country filming at family attractions grab a child and next day your out of the state or city and no one is any wiser who grabbed the child and if that did happen and the security never acted on it you would all be up in arms.

Most kidnappers aren't filming first. That's not a thing. And there are thousands of mall of America videos on KZbin. If anything, random footage from people can be helpful in identifying and catching kidnappers or shooters. That's what law inforcement always asks after a crime. For people with relavent footage to come forward. I'm 52 but I'd think most parents that are in their 20's or 30's and never knew a time when things weren't being constantly filmed would be pretty chill about that sort of thing.
@561jeffkellyАй бұрын
@@laurag-oe9xoyes and you are right. You also need to know that a lot of police or national security work is about preventing a crime or incident not letting it happen. Mr jones down the street loves filming stuff, he is so nice been filming stuff for years but what you think is innocent filming. Mr jones down the street is then posting it on the Darkweb to his not so innocent friends of your children just playing and yes it’s not some movie made up word the Darkwed its real and sickening. So if these security officers went over to Innocent Mr Woo then there was a reason. Not cause Mr Woo is a pervert but just to check why a 50+ male by himself is going around filming at a family attraction or a shopping mall full of innocent people and making him aware that they are watching.
@laurag-oe9xoАй бұрын
@561jeffkelly While child porn is a problem, I guarantee the people filming stuff are using hidden cameras. They aren't drawing attention to themselves. They don't want proof of themselves filming. The shooting on Halloween in a mall in Vancouver Washington 3 days ago while little kids were trick-or-treating was done by a 22 year old. I'd be more concerned with my kid getting shot than someone using their picture for something gross. Are they questioning 20 year olds? Maybe. Hard to say. But I think the attitude of "well if you are 50 and filming expect to be harassed" is crazy. Maybe they should ask ID from everyone that enters the building. Sadly, that's the direction we are going.
@561jeffkellyАй бұрын
@@laurag-oe9xoAgain I agree with you stop one person why not stop them all. I myself like watching Mr Woo with my wife and I know if I went into my current job and said “ Adam the Woo” I know a vast majority would not have a clue who he is or what he is and then explain he is a 50+ year old male who goes round family attractions a lot by himself or goes and drives the back streets of America by himself filming a lot of eyebrows would raise. What I did before my current job I got stopped or pulled over but showed my ID, thanked the person or persons and went on my merry way. Did I moan when I got pulled over or got back into work the next shift “Such en such needs disciplined” no cause I knew that they were doing there job. What got me to write these comments was how Mr Woo at the end came across like some spoiled movie or TV star “How dare they Question me, Asking for my ID I showed them my videos” not that he did but i was waiting for the “Do they know who i am” Line. He has a following of about 1-300 thousand people on social media that’s a lot but there is 6-7 Billion people on this planet that’s more than 99.8% probably that don’t even know he is alive. It just gets me when police or security officers do there job and then people complain. These officers don’t know or can tell what a pervert,trouble maker or terrorist looks like. Go online and put in what they look like and I can bet the vast majority look like a family member, work colleague or neighbour. So by doing what they did just made him think twice if he was going to do anything not that he did or probably would.
@561jeffkellyАй бұрын
@@laurag-oe9xoagain I agree. These officers have not got a clue who he is. Like me if I went into my previous job and said I watch a 50+ year old male that goes to family attractions and driving the back streets of America by himself filming a vast majority would raise a eyebrow or even ask does he need investigating. even now in my current job I said Adam the Woo I would get who. Mr Woo has an audience of about 700 thousand on social media that’s a lot of people but there is 6-7 billion people in this world that’s 99.3% that don’t know him and these officers were part of that 99.3% of the people.
