Removed a section in my camper where the entertainment area is and installed. Works great. Instead of propane furnace heat, I can use this kzbin.infoUgkxATHBlMJwipGgVWseuAFKvDQ_5R4_lywo to heat the camper as long as it's hooked up to shore power. Only thing I do not like is there does not seem to be a thermostat. I'm presuming it has a built-in one so it does not overheat. Really like all the other color options it has to offer.

Yes! Feature wall with sloped ceiling and three walls. One wall has a fireplace between two floor to ceiling windows. So builders clearly intended the fireplace to be focal point but that doesn't fit our functional family tv room needs. Thanks

Oh, awesome, great video! I’d really need advice on sloped ceilings, especially what to do regarding curtains or drapes when the window is in a non sloped niche but the ceiling on both sides is, because curtains can look kind of awkward and crammed into the space, but I’m probably doing it wrong.

Thank You for doing this video! I recently removed our tv from our living room and I love having it gone. My husband watches whatever he wants on his laptop. I watch KZbin videos on my iPhone. Sometimes I just sit and read or look through design catalogs with our cats and dogs snuggled up with us. I really think our living room looks prettier and it actually makes the entire space feel larger. And I agree that tv’s do not work well hung above a fireplace in most layouts. My husband teases me that I have moved furniture so much that our next house will be one like the houses in Mexico where the furniture is anchored to the floors, lol! I just now told him, “Well Julie said to move furniture and have fun!”😂😂😂

Awesome video! We have a corner TV & adjacent fireplace (basically flip any of your examples) & are hoping to get a sectional soon. For now, 2 sofas in an "L" configuration seems to work well! Additional awkwardness is that there's ~2 meters of excess space in behind the loveseat. This is where you enter the room too (off the corner). Not sure what to do with that dead space just yet...

Love this series! I don’t have a corner fireplace I have one in the center of a long wall making Television placement awkward and unbalanced. On top of that there is little usable wall space as large open walkways and windows take up the other 3 sides of the room. At this moment the tv sits in a armoire angled in a corner on one side of the fireplace. Although I don’t like the layout especially there is good viewing of the fireplace and the tv from most seats.

Hi Julie thank you for already sharing such great insights on how to improve my home. My space is an L shape with the corner pointing bottom right . On the lower end I have three windows. In the top right of the shape I have the kitchen. How do I position a cozy seating area that looks inviting for guests ? And should I keep it open , or should I separate the kitchen from the living room ?

Hi Julie! Happy New Year! Love the new series. You explain everything so eloquently. I don't have a corner fireplace in my living room but my front door opens to a closet and small entry that faces a staircase that opens to the living room with a bay window and one large wall which opens to dining room that has one wall and a 6ft slider on exterior wall that opens to a peninsula in the kitchen. I love the semi open concept but the entryways and lack of walls in living and dining room make furniture placement difficult for me to figure out. Julie, I know you can figure out this conundrum and would love to see a video on it.
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu 3 жыл бұрын
Don’t look to the walls to create space Cassandra, look to the floors to figure out your seating groups. Most of the furniture in this episode aren’t backed up against walls. They float in space. Watch again to dissect the arrangements 👍🏻

What do you suggest for a living room with a corner fireplace that has walls on both sides and a large window on the adjacent wall? The layout goes into a bit of more awkwardness as the wall to the left of the fp is small and opens up to the kitchen. There are other issues with the main floor of our home that all tie into the living room. As of now, to me, our large living room isn’t set up to reach its full potential. I would love to send you some pics so you can get a better understanding of the layout issues we are having. As I said previously, the living room fireplace is on the corner at the divider wall leading into the kitchen and the other side wall leads into a short hallway housing the other 3 rooms on the main floor. It really is frustrating, as I know that there is plenty of space unused due to said layout. HELP please. 13:42

I love this idea! Although my mom has a corner fireplace and this video doesn't account for small spaces. My awkward space is a bulk head!! I hope you cover those. We have a fireplace in the center of our long living room wall with two symmetrical windows on either side that I would love to put flowy curtains on. However the connecting wall where we have a tv has a bulk head running the entire length and it covers above the corner of our right fireplace window :( I'm guessing I'm stuck with blinds? In the model they hung the left curtain at the 9 foot ceiling height and the right one at 8 feet. There is a window under the connecting wall's bulk head also hung at 8ft but I think this is weird. They had to do track curtains too because the window frame meets the bulkhead. This means you can't even close the curtains but you know, probably don't want to in a model anyway. I really look forward to this series. I have so many awkward corners!
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu 3 жыл бұрын

I have a long narrow sunken family room with a corner fireplace. When I renovated my kitchen, I broke up the “bowling alley look, by moving the few steps down between kitchen and family room so they open to the middle of the family room wall. This only gives me 1 option for furniture placement( I.e. sectional on far wall with tv mounted over fireplace) I would be curious if you could think of other options.

@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Sinu! Technically, yes. If you can get the TV to mount at 55” AFF, then do it. If not, then I think an adjacent wall next to the fireplace would be ideal. That’s my vote to make the fireplace more grand and a clear focal point of the space

really need your help......I have a moveable corner fireplace in a corner with a 45" tv on it. on the right is patio doors, on the left of the fireplace is a entrance to my dining room, next wall to that has a corner curio cabinet then entrance to my hallway to bedrooms and bathroom. Of course then I have a couch on the remaining of this wall, last wall has 2 lazy boys with entables on each side of them. Really any suggestions would appreciated!!!!

I don’t have a corner fireplace but it is on the only wall available for a tv. So it’s mounted over it. It doesn’t bother me though. Also I feel like I can’t put too much on one side of the living room because it is the main passage way from the garage to the rest of the house. What do you do there? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Measuring your space will allow you to see what can and cannot be done. If you want to leave it clear, then try floating a slim cabinet or shelf on the walls to free up the floors Ariel.

Omg! Am I the only one actually thinking about putting a corner fireplace in the living room? I’m gonna have a rectangular shaped living room in my new house, would love a fire place to create the french contemporary style, but want to keep the long focal wall for TV (I love watching telly!). So a corner fireplace might seem to be my only option 😅

Dear Julie We are building our home. It has a long 28 foot hallway/lobby/corridor. What size is a good width? We are planning 5 foot 6 inch width, reduced to 4 foot by keeping a credenza & a shoerack along the length of the hallway. The main entrance door is at the centre of the hallway. So, credenza will be on one side & shoerack on the other. Kindly suggest.

I would like a color scheme of white & gold. What lighting is good? Is a chandelior a good idea?

@@JulieKhuu Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, The door casing butts up to my bathroom sink, and the only hall closet is on the other side of the house. Awkward space challenge: The front door is in a corner and opens to the living room/dining area. To the left of the front door is a window. (No space between the door and the left wall when opened.) To the right of the front door is a living room with a brick wall behind a set of stairs with iron rails. To the right of the dining area is a galley kitchen. There is a floor to ceiling coat/storage closet in the kitchen along the back wall adjacent to the dining area. It is built to look like a large cabinet with two five foot doors and two regular size doors that match the rest of the cabinets. (I am adding shelving and drawers to convert this to a pantry.) On the living room side of the kitchen there are bar stools. Cabinets hang from the ceiling on the living room side of the kitchen, leaving about three feet between them and the counter. There is a support beam that runs across the ceiling “separating” the kitchen and dining area from the living room. There is a support column on the outer corner of the counter/cabinet combo. There is not a lot of space between the barstool/counter and stairs. There is a long blank wall running from the front door to the brick wall behind the stairs. I have my electric piano in the small space under the stairs. I have opted not to use the dining area in the traditional sense as I want to create a built in look to store all my sewing supplies. Where I need help: There is no entry. Where do I put the TV? Where do I put the sofa? Currently, the sofa is parallel to the window by the door with about six feet between them. It faces the stairs and piano. The bar stools are to the left of the sofa. There is enough space between the sofa and the long blank wall to walk. This area is about 400 square feet. Can anyone help with this?

Hi Shi, thank you so much for watching and sharing your space. I encourage you to watch my Dream Space series, particularly the episode on scale and proportion. Have you measured your space? Have you determined the different zones and their primary functions? If TV watching is a priority, find the wall that you can place it on first, understanding that the largest sofa should be facing this wall. The rest should become clearer once you get that out of the way. Hope that helps!

On the right long wall with two windows and a wall in between leading up to the half wall before entering into the dining area.Proceed to a wall. Open entryway to kitchen.proceed ahead to Breakfast nook with 2 stools and a half wall on both side leaving to dining room ..help When you first step up into the space there is an accent wall in the corner with a chaise. The next area is what i struggle with how to place my sofa and love seat and coffee table

Second, I concur with Ms. King above. California entryways are for the most part short and dark- anything on lighting and furniture placement. As for another awkward space, where best to place an upright piano? Baby grands- no problem, but an upright? In the living room against the wall next to the sofas or create a separate space altogether on another wall? Clearly, many folks don't have a separate music room. I love a corner fireplace. Too often, when they are in the center of the room, there's nowhere to put the tv or worse, it's on the opposite wall so the fp is behind you. In the corner, you can see both the tv and the fp but the tv doesn't have to be OVER the fp and too high. It's a win/win for me.

Thank you. This is so helpful! I am having difficulty with our narrow entryway. It is too narrow to include a bench or small console table on the wall where the door does not hit. Right next to the wall where we can’t add any furniture to, there is a hallway entrance followed by a small corner facing in the direction of the entrance. That seems to be the only place to add furniture, but that corner is so small that the only thing that may fit is a small pedestal table (less than 20” diameter) Unfortunately the only ones that I can find are short end tables and it does not look grand. Most corner furniture available are bookcases which I am not sure if it’s appropriate for an entrance. Would love to see a video in the future on awkward entryways.
