Thanks for watching this episode! As someone who has put hundreds of hours into Counter-Strike across the franchise, this was a really fun one to make (even if my skin collection isn't what it once was) - I was fascinated to hear from Gooseman talk about the gun that nearly replaced the AWP all those years ago! And for all the inventions that began in a shed, this one is certainly one of the coolest... As always, please do like the video if you enjoyed it, leave your thoughts or ideas for episodes with us in the comments or hit me up @IrregularDave on socials. Thanks again for watching, and we'll see you next week!

I love hearing these stories from the guys who designed and manufactured a successful rifle. I was always curious how the Accuracy International guys had the skill to make the first few rifles and I'm pleasantly surprised to hear they were tool makers. I am interested in small arms design & manufacture and rather than get into a gunsmithing apprenticeship--I got into a tool and die makers apprenticeship. It made the most sense to me because tool and die making involves a lot of different metal working skills including manual machining with lathes and bridgeport mills and surface grinders, CNC machining(I'm doing that rotation right now), welding, using large presses for stamping, building extrusion dies, it goes well in depth into concepts such as tolerance staking, metrology, etc. Plus, my company pays for college courses and I get paid to learn the trade.

Thanks Dave and team, that was really interesting. Back when I actually used to compete at the annual NRA Meeting at Bisley, one could just turn up shoot the McQueen sniper rifle course of fire, as an "unlimited re-entry" competition. In one class of this event, the entry fee provided the required ammunition and the loan of an army issue rifle. My first outings at this event used the Lee Enfield L42A1 rifles but later on the rifles were L96A1s. The latter was a big improvement over the Enfield and was much nicer to shoot.

Funny how Minh Le said that he was choosing either the AW or the TRG, because Counter-Strike Online devs planned to make the TRG-42 as an AWP skin before they made it into a separate weapon. It's a pretty interesting coincidence.
@PlatinumNath5 күн бұрын
In a way, Counter Strike Online kinda still made TRG become an "AWP but heavier (for some reason???) and with less bullets" anyway in the end, not too much difference except for those and a much louder shot sound. CSO has a LOT of different snipers with similar stats though, true too overall for the rifles and pistols (SMGs and shotguns have more variations, and the LMGs are somehow very varied despite being even more plenty than the pistols)

This episode was awesome with the other 2 people being interviewed. It's so cool that you got them in here. I first saw it in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (like many other weapons) and loved it. It's up there as one of my favorite sniper rifles.
@hangmanmatt259810 ай бұрын
The AWM is my favorite sniper rifle in BF4. I ran a 40x with a 14x variable, bipod, and heavy barrel. I just find a good vantage point and start taking names. It's the rifle I can consistently hit headshots at over 1km away. I learned it's bullet drop, speed, and range so well that my favorite map was Silk Road. Just taking out spawn campers and taking the heads off people who spawn in helicopters is the best contribution to my team, and they never even knew what I was doing to help. This rifle is also on my must buy list for airsoft guns when I have the money.
@Moehre04010 ай бұрын
Man the sound of the pre-CS:GO AWP is so statisfying. Also fun fact: As a german for some reason people(myself included) keep calling it the AWE (more like in "Ave Cesar", not the word "awe"), which i suspect is a result of it being easier to call out than AWP in german. Though many that started with CS:GO are also just calling it in english, as AWP.

The little bits of trivia from Gooseman are very interesting. I had no idea that there was another rifle that could've taken the AWP's spot.

I was really surprised to hear him say that too. I don't think it is common knowledge in Counter Strike? Maybe the Reddit would say different if they got eyes on the video. But knowing the AWP is so iconic to CS, I never even considered that another rifle could have been in the same spot.

I forgot what gun this was for the longest time because it’s impossible to forget that it was the most infamous gun due to it being considered “cheating” for the first 9 months. They were a bit slow on patches for balancing back then haha. My go to guns were the Glock 18, and the MP5 or Steyr Aug. I thought it was funny to “cheat” back in the day by changing the skins of enemies…usually to Ronald McDonald. I don’t think it’s cheating, it made identifying enemies 100% easier haha. Not that it mattered I’d get kicked out and banned for flashbanging my squad in firefights or just prior to an attempted ambush. I found my own ways to entertain myself after playing seriously the first 6 months. Ah good times for sure back in high school.

While I won't deny that the AW and its variants is pretty awesome, I also won't deny that its angered me many a time playing Counter Strike (Source and GO). It feels a bit unfair that even if say your TOE is sticking out around a corner you still get one-shot killed by the AWP. I feel like it should have basically been made one-shot to the chest and head, and high damage to the gut and thighs (probably leaving you with so little health the enemy team could easily finish you off)

We always called it AWM here in my friends group in germany at around 2000-2005. I don't know exactly why as we played the english client. Or was there a german translated version below 1.5?
