Yeah, you are right"you don't want to incur additional costs while learning". I was just using the free tier for learning following tutorials and I got charged!! I can´t believe yet but anyway, I´ll folow your advice, thank you for the video :)

What do the "Statistic" and "Maximum" fields mean in this case? The statistic field also has other values such as 'average', which makes it look like we're creating an alarm for an average cost per x hours.
@justmeandopensource4 жыл бұрын
Hi Timothy, thanks for watching. The metrics we are using is estimatedCharges and the type is maximum. The usage charge is always going to go in one direction and so no point in calculating average. So maximum makes sense here.

I have a specific scenario where I need to trigger an alarm on daily basis when ever it is >= $500. I mean in one day if it reaches $500 and not in one month. Could you please help me here with the alarm setup.
@panktijhaveri54184 жыл бұрын
By creating an alarm that you have shown in the video, we will get a notification if the limit exceeds for all the services? Or for different services you have to create a different alarm?
@justmeandopensource4 жыл бұрын
Hi Pankti, thanks for watching. This alarm is for your AWS account billing as a whole. It includes all the services.
@asmitpandharbale25864 жыл бұрын
Hey, 1. Will it cause any problem if it says "insufficient data"? 2. Also in the preferences, I have enabled the 3rd option "Receive Billing Alerts" (I missed the point of 'cant be disabled, once enabled')

Brother thanks for AWS series. You are doing great job. Taking out time for others from busy schedule is great. Are you focusing on preparing us for AWS solution architect associate exam or its a general overview of all the aws services you know.
@justmeandopensource5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching this video. The intention of starting this series is just to share my knowledge with others. Especially for those starting their AWS journey. In fact I am preparing for the AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification. But this series won't target people preparing for that exam, as the exam covers a wide range of concepts. But still my videos could help viewers get their first step towards the certification. Thanks.

I have seen multiple videos on this topic and everyone is keeping some amount like 5$ or 10$ . Any specific reason behind that? why can't we just keep 0$, it however says greater than right? @JustmeandOpensource please clarify this. any one who knows please reply. Thanks in advance.

After clicking Create Topic, It gives error saying "Failed to create SNS topic" What to do?
@justmeandopensource4 жыл бұрын
Hi Muhammad, thanks for watching. It should also give you some additional error details as to why its failing. May be permissions issue for your user account creating SNS topic. What sort of user account do you have?
@MaxWinner4 жыл бұрын
I came up against the same issue and it was because I added a space between "Billing" and "Alerts" I fixed this by removing the space and making it one word - It doesn't allow "special characters" which strangely includes spaces :) They do however allow for hyphen and underscore so you could swap out space for one of these - Here is the warning I got - ** Invalid notification list name. SNS topic names can contain only alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-s) and underscores (_) SNS topic names can contain only alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-) and underscores (_). ** Thanks for great video btw :) helped me a bunch - Liked and subbed :)

I don't see AWS/Billing as namespace in my screen. I only see AWS/usage and AWS/logs

I found the answer. I think we need to select N.Virginia as our location and then proceed. Full instructions are here: docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudWatch/latest/monitoring/monitor_estimated_charges_with_cloudwatch.html#turning_on_billing_metrics

i am having a two questions. 1) if we are crossed the limit of free tier acc will they deduct any amount? or the only purpose of creating billing alarm is to show a notification for us? 2) Iam facing a problem on creating a billing alarm. if i tried to set alarm on my AWS free tier account , the OK button has not change into green color. its being the state of insufficient . so please give the solution for this. how to know whether we are using free tier account or not.
@justmeandopensource4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lavanya, thanks for watching. If you are over your free tier limit, you will be charged on your payment card you set up. Billing alarm is just a notification that you setup and that doesn't stop AWS from charging you. So set up your alarm well before the threshold.

Help! After clicking Cloudwatch, I got this notifcation: Your service sign-up is almost complete! Thanks for signing up with Amazon Web Services. Your services may take up to 24 hours to fully activate. If you’re unable to access AWS services after that time, here are a few things you can do to expedite the process: Make sure you provided all necessary information during signup. Complete your AWS registration. Check your email to see if you have received any requests for additional information. If you have, please respond to those emails with the information requested. Verify your credit card information is correct. Also, check your credit card activity to see if there’s a $1 authorization (this is not a charge). You may need to contact your card issuer to approve the authorization. If the problem persists, please contact Support:

Hi Paul, thanks for watching. You will have to wait after signing up. Once the account is activated you will receive an email from Amazon. You can't just start using the account immediately after signing up. cheers.
