Nice. This will promote adoption of Kafka a lot. Most big Organizations runs Kafka in multiple Regions, and i think, replication between regions will be an inevitable feature forward. Most Orgs who may use MSK would decide to not have a Kafka Operations team. In that case, the responsibility of running Kafka MirrorMaker at scale is a big ask from developers, and no particular dev team would take that additional responsibility.

He mentions version upgrades in the talk, but afaik it isnt GA: Q: Are Apache Kafka version upgrades supported? Cluster version upgrades are not currently supported but we plan to support version upgrades soon. aws.amazon.com/msk/faqs/
