Simply put it is just a file server. If I will host a big website with high traffic, I can create 3 servers: one for database, one for the web server and one for file server. I just want to make things simple. Terminilogies can really confuse.

Do you know whether using S3 storage is better and more stable across different operation systems and devices compared to Google Drive? You answer is much appreaciated.

This is great where you started from. I'm trying to just upload free lead magnets, and they don't even give Arizona, where I live, as a region to choose from. Then in looking for instructions as to how to change the region, since I chose the only one that was close, I can't figure out a thing they're saying to do. I've looked around for 2 days and I'm beyond frustrated! Any suggestions?
@BeABetterDev
@BeABetterDev 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, S3 is global. That means that it can be accessed from any location without having to specify the region/data center the data is actually stored in. However, when you create your bucket, you ARE allowed to pick the data center it is stored in for performance purposes. If you REALLY want to change the region, I believe the only way to do that is to delete the bucket and recreate it in the desired region. Generally its a good idea to pick whichever one is geographically closest to you. Further, 'Selecting Region' in a traditional sense is a bit redundant for S3. If you look at the top right tab when on the S3 console and click the 'Global' dropdown, you can see 'S3 does not require region selection.' Hope this helps.

Hi, do you know if linking to a pdf hosted on AWS S3 will pass page rank from my website? Ie. should it be in robots or have a 'nofollow'. I link to a pdf data sheet on every page so as you can imagine with 3000 product pages it could be very bad. Thank you.

@BeABetterDev

Hi Lenka, yes you can definitely share them! You can make your S3 bucket public so anyone with a link can access the files via a URL.
@lenkaslavickova8567
@lenkaslavickova8567 4 жыл бұрын
@@BeABetterDev Thank you for your response! Where can I change blocking public access? Am I right that if I don't change this setting, I can only share with AWS users? "The block public access settings turned on for this bucket prevent granting public access."
@BeABetterDev
@BeABetterDev 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lenka. Here is a great guide that shows you how to change your bucket's access policy to Public: docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/user-guide/block-public-access-bucket.html . If you leave it on default settings, the bucket's contents are actually only visible to you. Other AWS users will not be able to access it. However changing it to public makes anyone able to access it. Hope this helps!
