On July 5, 2024, the Awutu Awubia Festival was officially launched at Kasoa Odupong Ofaakor with grand festivities. This year’s festival,celebrated with the theme "Empowering The Youth For Development Through Festival To Build Awutu State," honored past events and aimed to strengthen community ties while focusing on youth empowerment.
The launch was graced by notable dignitaries including His Royal Majesty Agyeman, His Royal Majesty Nai Odupong Awushie Tetteh II, Hon. Mavis Hawah Koomson, Hon. Gizella Tetteh and others.
From Lucky TV Adwoa Acheampomaa Owoahene and the rest of team were there to bring us all the exclusives, featuring an exclusive interview with Nai Bentum.
In his address, Nai Bentum emphasized the festival's purpose of promoting agricultural prosperity and highlighted the strength and resilience of the Awutu people.
Nai Bentum also addressed the issue of drug abuse, advising the youth to avoid it due to its detrimental effects on personal lives and community welfare. He provided insights into the festival's customs, including the Apatampa dance, which uses traditional instruments like the ampaa drum, mpetsiba, and musical box, were dancers wear distinctive costumes, including cloths tied around their waist and chest, beads, and special headgear called tekuato.
In addition, the Gonja chief shared details about the Gonja festival, describing night processions with torches, Quran recitations, and various festival activities. The Gonja festival, similar to the Awubia, culminates in significant days like the Naa Damba, marked by dancing, feasting, and processions.
Nai Kwadwo Agriri, a sub chief of the Awutu Awubia society, discussed plans for community development, including the establishment of hospitals to support local residents. He also encouraged the youth to work hard and remain content to achieve their goals.
The launch of the Awutu Awubia Festival set a positive tone for the celebrations, emphasizing cultural heritage, community solidarity, and youth empowerment.
