This video is the second part in my series where I go through and oil my axe collection and talk a little bit about each head. The first three axes covered are trades to ‪@_BigLife_‬ (Lionhead Restorations). If you have any questions about them please feel free to comment or reach out.

Another nice lot. A few caught my eye, but that red painted Rockaway is a beauty. Recently I have become a sucker for a vintage painted axe head. As for the handle, I kinda feel like it belongs back where it came from, the brush axe.

Thanks Joey!! I'm partial to that red rockaway also. My 4 year old was in the shop not too long ago asking if it could be his some day lol. I think I'm leaning that why with the brush axe also. Thanks for weighing in man!!!!

Great video Nate. I can't wait for them to show up. I will definitely do videos on them at some point. Thanks again for the trade. That Legitimus connie is nice. I say fix and keep the original brush axe handle and put them back together. Love you collection.

@@Nsvens89 I look forward to it. I'm not familiar M-Pro 7. Looks like a good product. I'm going to see if it's available here in New Zealand.

@brettbrown9814 it seems to work well for this but I'm sure any other gun oil would work well. This stuff is a little thicker and seems to sink into the rust well 👍👍

Id keep it with the brush axe. They are so useful. dont separate them. Just make a kick ass raft handle. You can.

Haha thanks for weighing in on the brush axe. I'm leaning that way myself and it seems to be the general consensus!

keep them from deteriorating further is a good idea.

Thanks Lance! I figured it was a good way to cover the collection and do some upkeep all at once.

So I'm early into my collecting...…when you say a "high centerline" profile, do you mean the convex from top to bottom? Because I've noticed some axes are a lot flatter top to bottom. Would the more convex vertical profile give you better chip breakout or limit it getting stuck? Also Id like to see those utility knives you've got on you wall. If you don't have a cast iron Defiance 1299 yet i got one id love to send ya. You and Buckin Billy Ray and are my go to axe guys. Keep up the great work brother.

I truly appreciate the kind words Corey!! Buckin has a great energy and attitude. I enjoy his content also! That's exactly right about the high centerline basically of pinch the axe in the middle of the bit and move towards the top or toe direction it tapers. Same for the bottom or heel. When you sight down the top of the axe (birds eye view from the top down. You can see the center of the bit is higher. The idea behind this is exactly as you said. It helps the axe bite deeper without getting stuck and pop chips when bucking/felling. The idea is it has less surface area in contact with the cut since it's not flat. Thus less friction and a deeper bite. It's funny you mention the knives. I've actually got a video filmed for next week's upload where use the 199 to open the packages and then briefly talk about it and the 299s I've got hanging there. Are you on Instagram? If so definitely shoot me a DM I'm nsvensen89 on there.

Have you ever purchased axes for a seller Petronea? Check out his current listings of Ravens and Buffalo black axe. Share you opinions.

I don't know the seller not have conversed with them. I also have. Not purchased anything from the seller either. They may have sold some real ones at some point, but the listing's I've seen look to be fakes. By fakes I mean older heads that have not been etched, being etched to have the black raven or Buffalo axe etchings. In my mind it's perfectly fine to etch a old head to add a cool logo. Gets more Grey if you're adding an existing vintage logo. And very sketchy if you're passing them off as originals and not replicas. These are just my thoughts formed from observations.

I agree. It’s to a point where you should avoid eBay unless dealing with a know seller.

It's tricky for sure. I know there are lots of guys on Instagram who've reported them but ebay doesn't seem to be doing much. I agree if you're buying an expensive head like that, it's a good idea to stick to someone you know and trust. 👍
