Thank you for tutorials! On 9:35, you can set amount of samples in rendering settings to 1, emit and diffuse (if without direct+indirect) passes don't depend on that (among some others). This will result in greatly reduced time (and hardware load) to render the maps

In case someone runs into the issue of White spot artifacts on your high poly mesh when attaching your pointiness node. It's caused by your object being to small, so you'll need to scale both the high and low poly meshes and apply the scale before baking.

If you have a hard time seeing if there are black and white spots while setting up your color ramp, you can set it to constant temporarily so the spots will have a sharp edge

At 3:50 why not just set the black on the color ramp to be less than 100% black ie change the color ramp black point slightly towards grey. Would that accomplish the same thing and not allow for more control of the "contrast" effect?

When it shows in your videos, your objects are a lighter grey but when I switch it to render preview, mine is dark grey. With or without lighting it is still dark grey. Hi Grant, I’m curious to know how baking this kind of lighting information might work with organic forms like a mouth or eyelids-- things that move, stretch, and open. I imagine that you’d have a high poly mouth that is just a crease on the surface and doesn’t curve and go inside the model. Or would you have a HP sculpt that has lips that touch together and mouth, and be able to bake it all the same? Do you know anything about this? Thanks for the awesome tutorials!

I have a question Does viewport look matter for baking texture maps for example ao,cavity,emit.... can i have it in solid mode viewport and bake ao,cavity,emit... or it has to be in render preview (viewport shading) ? and the emission node makes my mesh too white and bright even with 1.0 value but the baked texture map looks normal i think, at least looks similar to your cavity map

this may be a dumb question, but how do you get the render view to appear illuminated? I keep getting a really dark gray color instead of white surface. Should I set up some scene lights before this step? Edit* I think i solved it by changing the world color to white, was that what I was doing wrong?

It’s not specifically about this video but when you have sculpted object and non sculpted objects ( character and small accessories eg..) and You uv unwrapped them all into same map, do you recommend to bake cavity for non sculpted objects as well?? hello Grant Abbitt, I follow your tutorials on udemy and on your channel and I have two questions first: normal map baking from high poly to low poly doesn't work properly I took a look at normals they were fine yet even with the least possible ray distance it doesn't work properly and some parts look empty as if the normals are flipped. Second I wanted to know if you have a proper tutorial on masking the body so that it won't come out of the armor and clothing when animated. i tried masking bodyparts out but it was so weird the body would stretch and masked parts would show up ... what is the proper way to get rid of it.

Hi Grant, so I did everything like in the video, but when I bake the cav map, it says it’s done after a very short time and it just stays completely black... I've been trying to figure out what went wrong for almost a whole day now and I'm at a loss. Do have an idea what might be the problem here?

Hi there again, I found the solution! I'm posting this here in case someone else gets the same problem. So it turned out to be a uv problem of the high poly. I just did a smart uv project of it (which took quite some time) and then it worked. Weirdly enough, the normal map wasn’t affected by the uv problem, so that’s a little bit weird...but you know, I'm really glad I figured it out :) Cheers Edit: There is also another thing that went wrong: I had disabled visible on render for the high poly (to test how the low poly looked) and I didn’t realize that it is also considered a render when you bake. (Honestly that one's on me, that was kind of stupid hahah)
