Wow. Great video and I know it will pay dividends for me personally. I’ve had a project in mind to cover some songs written by a band my cousins formed back in the 80’s. Two of them passed away some time ago, one of whom was the guitar player. He was a die hard Marshall guy all the way. I certainly want to put my mark on the songs, but the sound you achieve at around the 10:40 mark of the video is about as close as I’ve heard to his tone back then. It should fit perfectly in my attempt to do them justice. Thanks again for sharing as much as you do.

Leon, Appreciating all the info I can get my hands on right now on the Fractal Audio Got myself a 1st Gen AXE-FX and I am having a blast. Saving up to get myself a 3rd Gen AXE-FX something with a USB port for sure. But there is so much to learn. And I am loving the challenges that all come with It. Thanks Brother. Hey Leon! Great stuff. Applied your tips in my AX8 and bam! With some personal tweaks I got a great hard rock tone. A really cool mix between modern and 80's. Just what I've been aiming for. Added scene controllers for gain and master volume along with a clean scene. Gig ready indeed. Keep your good stuff coming! /Swaney
@LeonTodd5 жыл бұрын
How good are scene controllers?!
@mattiassvensson82415 жыл бұрын
I think it seems to be working all right. Added them to control master level and gain between rhythm channel and lead channel. I put a PEQ before the amp block to boost the mids just as you did in your "Hair metal" tutorial. I leave it out on the leads. Clean channel just as in your Hair metal tutorial. Works very well indeed. I experienced a lot of fuzz and noise when palm muting tight. A noise gate in the start of the chain cleaned up a whole lot. Sounds very nice to my ears. I also tried it out in drop B. Not as modern sounding as let's say the 5153 of course. But, it sounds great for metal as well it seems. Looking forward to trying it out on louder volumes.

Nah, shows it's still way fuzzy in the low end despite tweaks. Thought I had it. Dunno how to go about it. Any standard suggestions to tighten? /Swaney

hey Leon, great vids all around on the axe-fx. I know this is gonna sound a little weird, but i'm actually taking some of the things you're highlighting in these vids and applying them to my gt-100. Well as best I can anyway, its obviously not a 1-1 relationship, but its a process of listening to the sound as you explain what it is you're tweaking and then finding the relative control or combinations thereof on the gt100, Its kinda hard to envision i know, a lot of it just has to do with listening to the tone of course. Long story short, your tutes on the axe-fx are helping me to understand how to get the most out of another multifx unit. Maybe even just the clarity with which you explain what youre doing is all it really is, i dunno. Whatever it is, it works for me, and youre good at it man. Thanks for doing what you do :)

is it possible to edit an amp to become something like the martin golub plexi mod? Something like the dookie amp from green day? That crunchy high gain sound is killer. I know it's a blend of 2 mod super leads, one with more gain and another with a bit less gain
@LeonTodd4 жыл бұрын
Basically if you know what the mod does, there's going to be a control in here you can tweak. Whether it's a bright cap value, saturation switch or something more exotic, it's in there.

Another fine video. Love that tone! I've got a dumb question (for Leon or whoever)... how do you set your "playing live" solo level? Is it as easy as cranking up the level on a scene created for your solo sound? If so.. how much louder are you guys going for live solo sound? (I'm sure my bedroom adjustments won't translate well to the stage)
@LeonTodd6 жыл бұрын
I use a PEQ block after the cab with a 1-2dB boost at 2k and an overall level boost of 1-2dB
@harmsengers30666 жыл бұрын
I use an expression pedal. I bought one with an adjustment wheel on the pedal itself. This way I can adjust the volume difference between "toe up" (rhythm) and " toe down" (solo) extremely easily. Even between songs on stage. It just doesn't give you the " mute" or volume swell options, but for mute I use either volume on the guitar (also for swells) or I press tuner (or even the mute on the wireless)

As a former owner of a Marshall JCM 900 Full stack and a current owner of a Spider IV half stack... I haven't played in three years but the Spider leaves me unhappy... being a programmer by trade, the Axe-FX seems like a dream rig for a returning player. It seems like I could get whatever tone of any amp out there with little issue. Being the cost of a Mesa Head is equal to or more depending, would you recommend the Axe over a traditional head given all the benefits? Especially since I am an amatuer and will never play live or gig. I just want all the effects options and different heads. Primarily enjoy metal and the blues. Thanks!
@LeonTodd6 жыл бұрын
The Axe-III through some decent full range monitors (e.g Atomic CLR, Xitone) or through a power amp and cab (I use a Matrix GT800 and a Mesa 212 or Marshall 412) will give you everything you could ever want. The Spider IV is a Hot Wheels toy car and the Axe is a Lamborghini.

Another great vid man, will say this, though....the level is just level (volume), it doesn't affect tone so if it's making it fizzy or gross it must be clipping your interface somewhere.

Leon. You make me want to spend money and buy and axeFx. Damn you sir. 😂 Just kidding. I'm trying to build a small pedal board type amp and cab solution, or straight to the FOH for small club gigs and this Axefx would be perfect. The only thing I don't understand is how to get feedback like being close to a cab with your guitar if you're going direct. I mean, if you have a monitoring cab as well I'm assuming you could maybe use a volume pedal? Just wondering how you would apprach such in a live situation. So glad to see kids your age ( I'm 58) play guitar to the olympic level 80s style. The best time in history for guitar olaying if you ask me, but I'm prejedice of course. 😂
@LeonTodd5 жыл бұрын
There's a few clever workarounds that emulate things like the Digitech Freqout. The easiest thing to do is have a decent volume come out of your on stage monitor though.
