Axel Vervoordt is one of my favourite artist/designer/collector. I love his look on life and his sentiments. I remember in one of the interviews years ago when he says that, "we have come up with so many designs over the centuries, there is no more to ideas, I now love to find old unique things and turn them into beautiful things".

Those with great privilege, including wealth and education seem to be the ones who think it's still possible to be down to earth, but really, his style is so refined, b/c he has so much to work from - abundance in knowledge, wisdom of the ages, theories that lesser men never really grasp, if they come in contact with the great ideas of the ages at all. His choices are nonetheless highbrow no matter what. A cosmopolitan, erudite man is rarely all that humble, well not as humble as he imagines. Hehehe. I still admire his approach, however,.

I agree with you I love the concept of what he is saying though! I am technically a poor person, I make about 30g's a year but I am cultured and love to learn and I love high art/fashion/music. I thank my upbringing for that, and honestly I love to share the knowledge that I have with others and I believe that's a big part of what life is all about - the fact that I can watch something high art on the internet and be cultured without ever leaving my tiny, little apartment! 😁

I find him incredibly inspiring and have a problem with the idea of such ownership. Because his philosophy is spiritual and then all of these things, the head of the monk, the disc of heaven... they should belong in public space, to be available to all. By commodifying spiritual objects and selling them at high price one is subverting the ideas behind the objects. A rich (wo)man buying Vervoordt design will by this act come no closer to spirituality, (s)he will just buy into the idea. I hope Vervoordt will one day open his castle and turn it into a museum available to all (and I can admire his curating genius).
@LaughingInTiny4 жыл бұрын
Comments like this are so weird. Would you open your home to the public and have random people walking through all the time? Why would you think he should want to be public? Because he has money? There are millions of old things floating around the world and the best pieces live in museums... So much stuff that most of it is never even on display... it's catalogued and lives in storage. If the guy wants to own an ancient thing and treats it with reverence and respect, why should he not?

He worked with Kanye West. A man of refinement, spirituality and exquisitely thoughtful taste worked for Kanye West, an empty vessel. The soulless mausoleum that is the result is no surprise at all. Vervoordt dove headfirst into that pool and discovered it was an inch deep. A monastery for those two? Please. He is now forever associated in the popular imagination with two of the most loudly famous people ever created. This man was "the designer's designer". What a pathetic footnote to such a well-respected career.
