Finally have a running one of these. Ha. First esc bad. Horizon sent another. Second caught fire 😬 and burnt the motor etc. (both first runs). Battery may have been fine but it got so hot that i disposed of it. Installed new esc and motor they sent and now seem good to go! Customer service with HH has gotten much better! Should have gone ahead and installed larger pinion. It’s a fun back yard monster truck just like it is though.

Huey Long I’ve run it on 3S a couple times, the motor gets hot really fast but the ESC doesn’t mind it a bit. I googled the ESC itself though and it’s advertised to be 3s capable so I wasn’t surprised there. Hopefully gearing helps or I’m gonna be putting a cheap brushless setup in it!

Huey Long I’d really like to find a way to make this 12 turn work with 3S though. in the runs I did with it on stock gearing the power looked so scale. It acted just like a real truck.

Hobbywing 1080 speed controller drop a 3s in it. Holmes hobby 550 12 turn sport. That'll be good for almost to 40% up and power should be plenty. Drop the painting down about to stock again that'll give you plenty of punch off the line and should bring you top speed up a bit too.

It is marketed as a crawler ESC. But it's 3s capable is 80 amps. Can be program forward brake reverse has a really nice internal b e c so you can put a high voltage high torque Servo on it no problem. Comes in at $42. Only $12 higher than a good b e c.

I have a 3660 hobby wing 5 mm shaft and a max 8 HW speedo. I’m ordering the axle inserts and a front seat bar. I just thought overdrive gears in front and back would increase over sped. If not I have castle 1/8 scale 2200 and mamba monster speedo and also the newer tekin 1/8 scale motor from my 4 10.3 that I used to race at my local track.

4 mph is pretty good for such minimal changes. Remember, if want a true idea of the difference you made you have to multiply by 10 to get the 1:1 equivalent. If that truck was 1:1 you just added 40 mph to the top end! That's a lot. -"Angry" Dave

I have a mamba x crawler edition..absolutely perfect for it. Gives it great scale speed and torque. Love it. Bought two smt10s one stock and they both have the same problems(servos and the bracket that holds the differentiel in)

I'd try going another tooth or two up or try running a 3s lipo with the gearing it has. Also perhaps it might help having a bit stiffer front end on it with thicker shock oil rolling over I'd imagine. Try locking the rear diff first, turning angle might become a bit wide with both locked I'd imagine on a grippy surface & servo might struggle a bit as well. Also how does the Kyosho monster van body fit this chassis ? Feel free too buy a spare unpainted body for that & see if you can fit it on if you cut out the rear of that shell.
