Had to go back and watch some Ripper videos after you were talking about it the other day on the live feed. I worked at a machine shop for a while building parts for real swat trucks , like gun ports and heavy duty hinges and stuff and in my free time they let me use the Bridgeport's and HAASS machines to make parts for my rc trucks.... That was the only time I actually enjoyed 12 plus hours a day 6 days a week at work... so I can really appreciate the effort that goes into the programming and time that goes into building the Ripper. Not to mention the cost of end mills and aluminum block that go into it..... I've crashed my far share of $100 plus end mills cause I was in a hurry doing work for the boss and making my own rc parts and forgetting to tag off tooling ....... lol try explaining that to the boss ...... but it is cool being able to make stuff like that.... anyway keep up the great work on the channel its come a long way.....

Thank you for taking the time to provide the visual on how the Ripper starts it's life. I had visualized it before but seeing it made it that much more real. Such an incredible display of what is possible. Can you comment on how many Rippers have been made so far?

metal fabrication is expensive, whether its milling, welding, etc. Its cool that this is an option for those who want it. Thanks for showing the material that it comes from. That comparison to what it becomes explains the cost

I think it is time to stop explaining people why Ripper costs what it costs.Some people will never get it.Not once after driving it or just looking at it I have regretted one cent I have spent on it.Also every person who has good look at it in person gets it why it is so expensive.Great update video Josh.

I know this is an old vid, but have yall ever considered doing a Nylon/plastic ripper chassis add-on, as a budget option that might be able to keep in production. either to add to a vs4-10 chassis, or an scx. Hell maybe even just do a nylon version of the aluminum dimensions for folks to put on their old scx10.2's. not sure if any of that would make business sense.

I agree with both Camps, somewhat. I definitely Appreciate all the Work and even the Craftsmanship of CAD Designing such a thing! Is it for everyone? CERTAINLY NOT!! But it wasn't made for that, was it? Frankly, if someday comes, and I ever HAVE that kind of money again.... I'd probably go for the 4-10 instead. Of course, MORE Money!! But, it's a more complete Product. It's ALL Vanquish! For THAT kind of money, that seems easier to swallow than a $1900.00 add-on Kit for an SCX10 II - which needs to be added to the final cost. I believe that the 4-10 is WORTH that much money! You can actually see what you've spent a King's Ransom for (in RC terms!!). I truly hope I can buy one, before production stops.... Have a GREAT time at Axialfest!! Carmine 💥 ⛽

People just don't understand what it cost to Machine like that. It's not a basic Machine part either. To Machine a round bar out of rectangular stock is crazy. Are you machining on a 5 axis machining center or doing multiple operations?? To me it seems like 1 continuous piece. It would be to hard to reposition for 2nd or 3rd operations other than drilling holes & stuff.
@HarleyDesignsInc
@HarleyDesignsInc 6 жыл бұрын
We have mainly 4 axis machines, no 5 axis. So it is done with more than one operation. The body panels are done on 3 axis machines in 2 ops as well.

Josh can you fit a small velcro strap to secure the battery leads to the pack itself? It just looks like that lead could still work it's way over that lexan when the Ripper is hitting rough trails at speed.

No worries man, just wasn't sure of what else you were doing to secure it, and would hate to have it slip out during some epic gnarly rock bounce. I can't wait to see this rig, AND the SBG rig tear it up at AxialFest! The video I mean. It'll be probably another 10 years before I get out there with my daughter. I'll keep enjoying local RC GTG's all the same take care man!

Not important but I am local 80 sheet metal worker n just FYI what the correct name is. The rigs looking awesome brotha, I’m so jealous I wish I could be going to axial fest, u lucky dog! why not stamp the panels in a punch press using sheet metal? I worked in precision sheet metal for 16 years. It would be a lot cheaper to stamp them, then to mill them and there would be no differents in on how strong it is. Just use a 6000 or 7000 series alum. This in turn would bring down the cost for you and your customers. Honestly that price of $1900 is way out there for most people. Iv'e been into rc's for 30 years and own over 30 ground vehicles and 10 drones i would never be able to afford that price.
@HarleyDesignsInc
@HarleyDesignsInc 6 жыл бұрын
Stamping would be possible on the side panels maybe but not the hood or grill. The drafts and sharp edges would never pull correctly. And if it was stamped the the mounting would not be as clean and recessed. Plus we would have to amortize the cost of the stamping tooling plus the charge to have someone else do it. It may actually add cost to the kit because the cage is still the most expensive part. This whole project is just an exercise in machining. It’s meant to be rare and exclusive. But we have sold way more than we thought we would.

Very wasteful people are tig welding tubes and they look just as good and i can guarantee they have less money in it and therefore can sell them for less and just me but I'd rather give my money to someone who has crafted something by hand...takes more talent and deserves more money and recognition....
@HarleyDesignsInc
@HarleyDesignsInc 6 жыл бұрын
I bet there are far more people who can weld aluminum then there are people who are capable of programming this cage to be machined. Also, these are perfectly repeatable so the precision fit of every body panel is perfect which is something else that isn’t done when welded. To build a cage like this from tube requires lower grade aluminum so that it can be bent. If you try to do it with a 6061 the tube just cracks. I have TIG welder aluminum cages, and hand made stuff is amazing, but this is a different level of appreciation for fabrication.

Even as many times as it is clearly stated some people just do not hear that the Ripper was not supposed to be a production piece. It was done to showcase what was possible at Vanquish with the extreme talent of their machinest, and their attention to detail. I have the utmost respect for people who can TIG weld small cages, but it is just not possible to duplicate what the Ripper is. Thanks so much Harley for letting us see what goes into these works of art.

RC Maine-iac your not taking into account the engineering & programming involved with machine work obviously. It's not just the time & material. You have to figure out how to hold the part in the Machine. How many ops. It's going to take. Program the machine which could take awhile in itself. Proof the program to make sure it'll run without crashing. Then there is machine set-up & then machine ops. All this has to be done for each of the 4 pcs. Of the cage. So yes there are people out there doing awesome tube work this truck obviously isn't for everyone. It's definitely geared towards someone with a basic knowledge of what it takes to create. Definitely something I'd love to have but would never be able to afford.
