I do find this incredibly frustrating. There must be math that allows us to accurately go from one time scale or another and have the simulation look the same, without needing to 'fudge' the look at different timescales. And why for example, does the solver not automatically do things like multiply the velocity forces by the timescale?

I can't get the retime node method to work on any speed other than 0.5 like in the example. 0.2, 0.1 etc. just don't work the same I'm getting juddering. I've tried various values for the timeshift node after, but nothing seems to work.

gotta sim substeps then use those to retime, also just set your scene to a higher FPS and bam instant slo-mo. no need for retiming. the retime node is pretty useless for anything except density.
