Both Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are absolutely outstanding! The original Dark Forces is getting the remaster treatment, and hopefully Jedi Knight will get the same treatment afterwards, because that game is a pain to run on modern systems, which is a shame because it’s a great game!

Love the videos Duck, you inspired me to play a lot of this. Got a few tips (mostly for the audience). In addition to not doing the main objectives; if your goal is to be invaded you can save and quit to the main menu and reload, invasions will be off cooldown after 30 seconds or so. You can mine up maps before being invaded as long as no guards are going to patrol and set them off, and there seems to be no limit to mines. Unconscious bodies can't be booby trapped, but you can throw a mine on the floor and a sleeper on top of the mine. I like to do that next to phones. When invaded on hard and lower, use focus and AP ammo for a lot of free kills. A lot of times you can just whistle and they'll stop moving or take cover to look for you. You'll get accused of hacking a lot but that makes it funnier to me. If someone is holding an angle within grenade distance, throw the grenade and follow it in with your SMG out. Either to bait the invader away from you, towards you or just towards a certain area; throw bottles, shoot but don't kill guards while undetected, anything to make them think you're somewhere you aren't. I think Duck himself covered this a little in an older video, but if you go to the shooting range you can edit your invader item loadout. I normally go med/mine(2)/grenade or med/mine/grenade(2) I know how to do it but won't share it here without Duck's blessing, but there is an exploit with mines. If you've ever been hit by a mine while invading and were positive there wasn't one there you're possibly correct. Can't even defuse it yourself when placed properly.
@duckwit85 Жыл бұрын
I don't do most of this stuff myself and it would probably drive me absolutely crazy if I matched with you, but its all solid stuff that makes it very hard to get you. 🤣I mean, if the game allows it, it can't be 'wrong'? The AP ammo/focus thing is pretty common these days and it drives me nuts that the invader doesn't at least have AP ammo (anymore, at least) to level the playing field just a bit as there are actually places Karl can stand and the invader can't hit them because they don't have the correct ammo. I even did it myself once, its in one of the Rubble and Ruin videos (I think it was the loud run). The idea that some players suggest you're hacking is very comical when focus mode exists as a legit part of the game. 😂

ICQ as well to talk to my school friends. Even now the sound of "oh-oh" (the ICQ message sound) makes me jump. The Zone became my home page when I got Jedi Knight and I was hanging around there for 2 years or so until Half-Life came out and TFC (Team Fortress Classic) was bundled free with one of the patches in mid-late 99. Half-Life had its own server browser so there wasn't much need for the Zone after that!

Just started playing Sniper Elite 5 because of the summer sale and now your showing up on my feed and I’m so glad you did. Your videos are so entertaining to watch. You really crack me up sometimes. I was wondering if you will ever do a video of some of your bloopers or videos of unedited walkthroughs. Keep up the great content and I’ll keep watching. 🙏🏻
@duckwit85 Жыл бұрын
I don't really have bloopers, if something is funny enough to be considered a blooper its almost certainly going to be in the video... which then means its not a blooper, so we now have a kind of chicken & egg thing going on. Thats why I edit the videos (be sure to watch the loud run of Kraken Awakes next week, I actually discuss why I edit briefly in that video). The stuff that does get removed is usually pretty mundane, boring stuff like searching 20 bodies to find a medkit, running for 3 minutes because I needed that satchel charge I passed 20 minutes ago that I forgot to pick up, or the ever classic "this guy won't turn around" for 2 minutes. My playthroughs of missions aren't quick, and to leave them unedited will not only mean I have to scan through an hour+ playthrough searching for swear words to censor, but it would also have me droning on about whatever I'm thinking about at the time and its often not relevant. For example my brief mention of my mutiplayer gaming history in this video was originally a full 5 minute rundown from the NES era until the mid-2000's, and (trust me on this) no one wants to hear me waffle about how perfect Super Mario Bros 3 is and how much I loved the original Half-Life in an Axis Invasion video. I figured the Jedi Knight/MSN Gaming Zone reference was enough to successfully make the "Duckwit is old" joke! 🤣 I don't enjoy long, unedited playthroughs myself and honestly think if I'd gone that route then I'd still have less than 100 subs right now! I do enjoy watching shorter stealth playthroughs (shoutout to @supermassive6263 because he's a stealth wizard), but my rationale is that there are plenty of guys doing that better than I ever could, especially when it comes to perfect stealth! I will be doing some Twitch streams in the near future (starting 12 hours from now), which I'll probably do all that stuff I normally cut out and talk rubbish for a bit, so thats an option!

Nice vid as always :) You know, you said in your previous SE5 vid that you were not the best SE player ever (as in, "I kinda wonder why you guys watch me since I'm not that good"). Spoiler alert: the main quality of a good KZbinr is not really his skill, it's his way of being, talking and commenting. Some players are exceptionally good, others are ridiculously bad, with the whole spectrum in-between; but the best ones are always those who manage to convey their fun in a nice manner and don't take themselves too seriously in either case. Afaic, I like your voice tone and calm way of playing more than your actual skill (which, by the way, you have enough of). So don't stress too much about being "good", just keep being yourself for our own entertainment ;) Cheers pal, keep the nice work flowin'! o7
@duckwit85 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate it! You have absolutely understood exactly what I've been going for with the videos. I've had awesome comments from people who have given invasion another go after watching, people who've tried it for the first time (having previously avoided it), and even one guy who saw the videos and bought the game just to play the game mode because he was enjoying the videos so much! Thats exactly the kind of reaction I've been going for with these, and its all about the entertainment factor! I'm honoured that my videos have achieved that! I know I'm not the best, but I also know I'm not bad. My comment in the last one was because I've had people who accuse me of being the 'worst player' ever to play the games, tell me my gameplay is 'cringe' because I'm not using what they would use and doing what they would do, etc. I'm bad if I play with authentic settings because I should be using scope zoom/aim assist/etc, or a cheesing it if I play with easier settings because I'm using those same features. If I don't hit every shot I'm terrible, etc. I have no idea what I've been doing that makes those people think I'm trying that hard, and to not just being a dude who's having a good time and trying to share it in a light-hearted way. It apparently didn't work, though, as on that same video I had a dude accuse me of 'cheating' (it turns out that he was oblivious as to how the difficulty works in invasion mode, but didn't retract the comment). I've since made peace with the fact that there will always be people who haven't actually watched the video but feel the need to share their opinion, those who totally misunderstand the game and what I'm trying to protray, or even those who take enjoyment out of belittling me or my opponents for whatever reason, so its something I need to live with. Besides, I can easily delete that shit if it bothers me (and I do, especially if its aimed at one of my opponents). Either way, I'll probably never mention it again in a video because doing so apparently doesn't work anyway! Thanks for the kind words, though. It means a lot to me!
@lhynn51 Жыл бұрын
@duckwit85 As a rule of thumb - which will be stressed by any old-time KZbinr around -, there will ALWAYS be those 5% morons on ANY channel who will shitpost for whatever reason, no matter what you do. As hard as it can be for any normally built human being to cope with gratuitous unjustified criticism, you just need to ignore them and focus on constructive feedback. It's not easy, but sadly it is what it is. Human stupidity is the only resource the world is nowhere near to be in shortage of, and that's not gonna change for the better anytime soon. As for the rest - well, for the record I kinda fall myself into the category of audience you described. I discovered you through your "can you beat SE5 as a loud lunatic" series. Prior to that I never really thought of even giving the Authentic difficulty a try, but after watching you having fun I replayed the whole campaign (dlcs included) as a loud lunatic myself and enjoyed it so much I barely play anything else than Authentic difficulty from now on. I also feared being penalized in my progress by invaders, but after realizing it didn't have any consequences on my playthrough I always play on Open now, and found out that 1) this was a really fun experience, and 2) I wasn't as much of a shit in this game mode as I initially thought (as I've always hated multiplayer modes in games and always strived to avoid any multiplayer non-coop experience if I had the chance to). So, if only for that, thank you for encouraging me to broaden my gaming vision & try new stuff. And at the very least, thank you for entertaining me when I'm bored. I guess we're quite a few in that situation, and that's the main reason that makes us come back to your channel.

I too have “retired” from most multiplayer games, the constant grind and often toxic environments pushed me away for my own sanity. Have you played Steel Division 1/2? It’s a pretty fun RTS, reminds me a bit of the classic Sudden Strike games which I played to death in my younger days.
@duckwit85 Жыл бұрын
I briefly played one of the Sudden Strike games a couple of years ago, never played Steel Division. Haven't played many WWII strategy games since Company of Heroes (the first one!). Steel Division 2 looks pretty cool, though, I might have to check it out. I used to play as many WWII games as I could back in the late 90's... Panzer Commander, Commandos, Close Combat, MS Combat Flight Simulator, the Hidden & Dangerous series, amongst a few others. Hidden & Dangerous is still something I play every couple of years. I really enjoyed multiplayer when I was a teen, after Jedi Knight I was mostly all about Team Fortress Classic (and Half-Life generally), then moved the Medal of Honor Allied Assault (Stalingrad/Snipers Only FTW). Being toxic in-game in those days was a bit harder because trolls had to stop playing in order to type their vitriol, and most servers had active admins who would ban-kick them to oblivion. 🤣I had a brief thing with Freelancer (the space game) when I was student then pretty much stopped playing multiplayer for years. I tried to get back into it with Left4Dead but was instantly faced with toxic players who targetted me for being a n00b and that was it, I was done with multiplayer. I never touched another online game until my mate convinced me to play Hell Let Loose with him. If he hadn't have convinced me to play that game, I probably would have turned invasions off in SE5 on day one and wouldn't have turned them back on again. That would have been a mistake!
@timmy3822 Жыл бұрын
@@duckwit85 it’s interesting we seem to have shared interests in the same games. I played Freelancer to death and it had a healthy modding scene for a good few years. I played some MOH on console but myself and a group of friends had a dedicated COD (the original) server which was snipers only, my twitch reflexes were something else back then… I feel like an old man by comparison now 😅. Commandos I sucked at for some reason, but I loved the H&D games. My favourite genre has always been flight sims though. I played a lot of MS combat flight simulator 2 where my adoration for US fighters like the Hellcat and Corsair started. I play a lot of IL-2 and DCS, my peripherals must have cost as much as my entire PC in all lol. Got the full HOTAS, rudder pedals and head tracking setup with a couple of MFD boxes on the desk to make things easier flying the F-16 etc. I did get sucked into the military F2P game scene like world of warships and war thunder. The toxicity and predatory nature of the game design is ridiculous though and I ended up quitting when I realised how stressful and frustrated I was. All so they could try to extract a bit more money from me. “Premium account” and paid “premium” vehicles that quickly became victims of power creep themselves… but wait there are NEW premiums to buy for even more money 🤬. I never played HLL but I enjoyed Post Scriptum a fair bit. Those games required a fair bit of time though and squad leads usually fell into two categories. Annoying teenagers telling you to do stupid stuff, or toxic adults yelling at you and making the entire experience stressful! Congratulations on the 1000 subs btw, I honestly thought you had more than that already!

@@timmy3822 Believe it or not, Freelancer still has a very small but active modding scene! I downloaded the HD mod a few weeks ago and it adds a ton of quality of life fixes for modern machines, and visual updates to make the game look and play better on modern systems. I haven't played the game in years and felt like giving it a go and, from the brief experience with it (I haven't dived back into it properly yet) it breathes a bit of a new life into it! I've generally avoided F2P games because I don't like grind or having pay-to-win stuff shoved into games. As you stated, the predatory nature of the design and the general attitude of treating players as walking cash machines, locking content thats installed on your machine behind a paywall before you can use it, etc. I can easily live without that. I'm of the era of buying the complete game in a box that you then own and having expansions that also actually came in a box for you to own with no strings attached. Games really were complete and fully featured products before the internet made releasing unfinished games with missing content that can be patched later an acceptable practice! * waves walking stick in the air * I still to this day have all of my old big box PC games, including the original Hidden & Dangerous from '99, the original GTA complete with heavily used paper maps of the cities, and EF2000 with the worlds biggest instruction manual instructing you on how to use the aircraft systems. BTW I also have a full HOTAS and rudder pedal setup for flight sims and space sims, athough its not set up at the moment. Head tracking gear has always appealed to me too, and I'll probably look into it soon when I inevitably feel the pull of Elite Dangerous, IL-2 or Flght Sim again (I go through phases).

@@duckwit85 I’m amazed Freelancer still has a modding scene considering how long ago it came out… *checks notes* 20 years ago… fuck I feel old! I wish I’d had the foresight as a teenager to keep all the old boxes for my PC games. The good old days of chunky game boxes and even chunkier manuals. Downloading games off Steam/GoG really isn’t the same. Sadly everything is sold to you these days as a “subscription” or sold piecemeal via DLC packs. Even Sniper Elite isn’t immune to this with the pricing model for the “season passes”. I miss when we had proper boxed expansions like Homeworld: Cataclysm instead of a skin and outfit lol. I haven’t played Elite Dangerous in forever, but play Star Wars: Squadrons occasionally to scratch that old school X-Wing/TIE Fighter itch. If you ever need a wingman in IL-2 or DCS I’d be happy to oblige though 👍🏻.

What time(and zone) do you usually play and on what server? Would love to play against you someday.

Firstly, thank you for the casual and courteous way you have enquired about this! I'm in the UK, so I play Western Europe, but as for when... Its hard to say. People are generally very surprised when I tell them this, but I actually don't play very often at all, which is why my kill count is so low considering that I have been playing since release (June 2022). I've only got ~450 kills and I win the majority of my matches, which gives you an indication of how infrequently I do it. It takes quite a lot of time/work to produce content and editing easily takes up the majority of my time, especially now the channel is getting more popular and I've set higher standards for myself and my content. I'm not a very competitive player and competitive combat isn't my jam. I enjoy invasions primarily for the scouting, sneaking and analytical aspects of the game mode. To try and satisfy a bit of the demand, though, I do occasionally find a block of time and post when I'm playing on the community page so viewers can try to match, and they often manage to! I am going to be doing this in a couple of weeks from now, so keep an eye out for that on the community page! It will likely be a Friday or Saturday night around 22:00 GMT, but I will announce details when I come to do it. Lately I've been pretty interested in the idea of playing with my viewers rather than against them, so I'm also going to be making some time to play some co-op SE5 with various viewers here and there over the coming months, so that might be an option for you too! Again, I'll be posting on the community page when I've got it figured out!

@@duckwit85 I agree, I prefer the stealth approach. That's what sniper elite is all about. There are plenty of run-n-gun games out there. Well, maybe fate will have it and our paths will cross online sometime on that virtual battlefield sometime in 1944. Peace out.

When it comes to nazis, I don't know what to think of. My grandfather fought in the German Afrikakorps and in France and he was always a loving and caring grandfather, yet in school we learn from a young age that we were the bad guys. It's not easy to understand the history if you are German and have relatives who fought in the war.

Some people fail to realize that the Wehrmacht (i.e. the regular German army) and the SS (i.e. the ideologically motivated armed corps) were 2 very different things, and most filthy guys were in the latter. But in times of war, even if both armies didn't like each other, they still fought together against the rest of the world, so making the difference is complicated. In both cases, the morale is that Germany ended up on the wrong side of History. One just needs to accept the facts and move on. It's been 3 quarters of a century now since that dire period of Humanity, and no German today can be held accountable for what their grandfathers and great-grandfathers did.

In the end, if you see through the propaganda of both sides? You can’t tell if the good guys won. History is written by the winners. But in reality, war disputes who is left…

@@lhynn51they still are paying jews back money 3 generations and still going.. their pretty dumped in that way and as a Neighbor 🇨🇭 i can't really understand why so many say they are nazis and say bad things in general to them there are some lovely people and i often play videogames with them 👍
@lhynn51 Жыл бұрын
@Dragonrah The tl:dr is - History is a fucked up mess. Colonization, slave trade, the World Wars and human greed in general screwed not only the people involved in them but many generations down the line as well. Compensations are a natural response to the horrors inflicted, but the question of how long one has to pay & be held accountable for what his ancestors did is an overly sensitive one, and there's a lot of abuse on either side of the argument. Ultimately, it's all about money and human suffering is merely an excuse, that's the disgusting truth.

@@lhynn51this is a literal myth called the “clean Wehrmacht myth” where ppl say that only the SS did the bad shit. When even regular soldiers committed crimes against humanity and had a pivotal and helping hand in the Holocaust. Please educate yourself on this. Do better, I know you can ❤️
