Hello Mam! I have a doubt regarding C2 in BENZENE. Mam, as you have stated (in trick) earlier that around axis the no of molecule that are rotating is the order "n". Now you are passing an axis which is passing through the opposite C atoms in benzene ring and around both sides of the axis there are 2-2 atoms that are rotating. So, A/C to trick it will be C4 ? But you have mentioned it as C2. Mam, Can you clear my doubt please ?

No no ..The principal axis is passing through the Benzene molecule...So all six carbon atoms are rotating and this is C6..👍

Great video! However, D4h point groups [Fe(CO)4(Cl)2] have all sigma_h, sigma_v, and sigma_d. We cannot always follow this rule that if sigma_h is not present, sigma_v=sigma_d.

Hi mam You told that vertical plane of symmetry is parallel to principle axis but in case of BF3. The principle axis is C3 which is projecting out of the board but the showed three vertical plane of symmetry is parallel to three C2 subsidiary axis, kindly clarify

Mam you explained very well .but I have an doubt that you told that short trick for determining order of axis is that we have to pass an imaginary line bisecting molecule and just see how many no of atoms rotate around that axis.But in ptcl4 example when we pass vertical and horizontal axis passing through pt then there are 4 atoms rotating about that axis so it will be c4 axis. Mam or anyone can explain me.

Greetings ! Thanks so much mam for your great explanations. I could not come across a better video than yours, you are just awesome. I just have one question. So, I am originally from Bangladesh and live in the US.I go to a University here and am a chem minor. In my book for XeF4 (xenon tetrafluoride) it says we have 5 c2 axis because 1 c2 is coincident with the principal axis, thus I’m a little a little confused if there are exceptions to this rule, (where you said we can not have subsidiary axis parallel to or in other word, coincident with the principal axis, )for some special cases like, XeF4 (square planar structure). Any response is greatly appriciated.

It is not the no of carbons rotating...it is no of carbons mutually exchanging their positions....when u pass axis through two carbons in case of benzene no of carbons mutually exchanging their positions is 2,hence C2 axis
