Period !!!!You don't believe me, watch any live concert from the Use Your Illusion World Tour, and watch the effort that he gives, his voice, and the way he communicates the song to the crowd. Nobody in rock can touch him, and I hope that he gets the recognition that he deserves one day. I've always noticed that the people who respect and like Axl the most, are the people that are knowledgeable about rock music.

I'm not knocking anybody for saying things like "he seems so calm... he seems so civil... etc..." because I blame the media for exaggerating incidents where Axl was already pushed to the brink in some situation and was caught (GASP!) reacting like a human being. Whenever Axl is approached politely, he returns that politeness in kind. I agree. I think he has a Napolean thing going on with Gn'R but as far as public image...the media did take it to him good and unfairly. I actually met him once...I was on vacation in LA and saw him at a bagel/coffee shop. I approached him, somewhat nervously because I had this media drive image of him, but he was incredibly gracious and actually gave me, my wife and kid a few minutes of actual time. It wasn't just a hello and autograph. He actually asked about how old our son was, what his name was and thought it was really cool that my son knew who he was and about Gn'R music...me and the wife are both music freaks and it rubs off. He spoke with us for about 10-15 minutes and was very cool, he even picked up our check, lmao! I felt so tacky and didn't want him doing it, we kept declining and he said "if I didn't really wanna' do it then I wouldn't offer, so please". I still brag to friends until this day that Axl Rose bought me and my humble family bagels. But it totally changed my entire opinion of the guy.

Steve E I LOVE your comment but I respectfully have to disagree with the "Napoleonic" part of it. No offense but I think people tend to put way too much stock in what certain former band members say when, during the UYI Tour, none of them gave a shit how much emotional pain Axl was in at the time (he never should have been touring then). I saw two shows during the Vegas Residency (5/30-31) and not only did he and his band mates sound AMAZING, you could tell how much more of a supportive family GNR has become. I also met Axl after one of the shows. I just stood there like a Fan Girl Dork and filmed with my iPhone. I was too nervous to say anything; not because of his reputation-- I always suspected there was "A Lot [More] Goin' On" than what people saw during the times he was pushed to the edge. Even though it was an unforgettable experience, I hope I get another chance at meeting him so I can give him the thanks he deserves. It was such a joy to see him so happy after the all the hell he's been through. Peace! :)

Lesley Wentzell Yea tottaly agree. To that I will add that if you read Duff's or Slash's memoirs about that time you really get the gist of what terrible addicts they were. One can just imagine the dynamics between someone using and someone not using. They write about how Ax shut himself off from them completely but after you read about their behaviors and how drugged up and sloshed they were all the time I would have stayed far away from them too. What sane sober person would want to stay anywhere near a bunch of addicts? Izzy couldn't stand it once he got sober. Ax did right by taking over the name and continuing on after they left. He was the shrewdest one of them all and deserved it, and it was his name. Had they taken over the GNR name they would have made a mess of everything.

Axl is a really cool, down to earth guy when he's doing everyday things. He seemed genuinely excited to be there, and I love his deep rich speaking voice and his beautiful smile, don't like the hairstyle and shaved eyebrows though, I much prefer him with a fringe 😘🤩😍🥰

That's definitely still the same guy-he's just not wearing a bandana, makeup, & sunglasses. Also put on a little weight. Compared to how he looks now though, it wasn't as noticeable back then. Styles change over time too-he wants to move forward & if he still dressed the same as he did in the 80s/90s, ppl would give him tons of $#!+ for it. He seems like an ok guy though, in his more recent years. No longer a young hothead, he's settled down a bit-nothing wrong with that!

Wasn't Axl still extremely reclusive back in 2001? Maybe they caught him by ambush this time. He almost looks adolescent here, like some high school kid you'd see hanging around a 7 Eleven or something. As to his demeanor, it seems from past interviews that he's always been quite shy, or reticent, though it is usually somewhat countered by the fact that usually he is speaking about music, the band, an album, or something that brings out some confidence.
