In my second year of Axworthy Flying Ghost-making, I decided to go bigger and spookier. Yo, my ghost is fly, dogg! Last year, it took me a LOT of time to get just one ghost flying. It was really pathetic. So this year, why not subject myself to more pain and suffering and go for FIVE Axworthy Flying Ghosts? And guess what? ... it was a LOT easier than last year!
This video shows how my FIVE Axworthy Flying Ghosts turned out and it outlines the process of how I did it. Now that I've got two years' of Axworthy Flying ghost experience under my belt, let me know in the comments if you have any questions ---- I'd love to help fellow Halloween DIYers succeed at getting their Axworthy Ghosts up and flying!
See the link below for my first Axworthy Flying Ghost video from last year (2022) that shows all the troubles I had and how I overcame them:
• Axworthy Flying Ghost ...
Here is a link to American Science & Surplus, where I got my DC motor that powers the Axworthy Flying Ghost so well. I'd highly recommend the motor, and this store overall - they've got a lot of random and cool things for Halloween DIYers!

Now, that’s just amazing! Someone needs to buy a Patton & manufacture these. They’d go flying off the shelves. 😂😂😂 🥁

I just got my first shipment from American Science & Surplus. THANKS for the tip! Too late ordering for Halloween but am thinking of doing a Christmas themed one.... using two motors at once. One of my two 'pulley motors" was DOA but their Surpie Support answered my email in record time. They are sending a tested replacement

Great video. Love the peanut gallery comments! I am dying to know what you used for the wheel (shown at 4:08) and how you connected it to the motor? I have searched KZbin for days on ways to make the wheel and connect it to the motor, and there aren't many detailed videos. Most show how to do it using a bike wheel with a coupler and JB weld. Your way looks much better!

Thanks a lot! I appreciate it… yes the girls are always a part of my boondoggles. 😊. For your question, I actually started this year trying to use a windshield wiper motor kit that I got from an online site called “Monster Guts”. Link below to what I bought. It included this little wiper motor extension shaft piece with some nuts to tighten something on the metal piece. (I think I had to add that as an extra item). I found that little plastic projector wheel/reel from a place near where I live called “American Science and Surplus” (Geneva IL). It looks like they don’t sell those projector reels on their site. It’s a pretty rando item so not sure where else you might be able to find one?. BUT, in any case, that wiper motor ended up pooping out like within an hour of me testing. So I had to switch back to the motor I used last year which is a DC motor that has a little wheel built right in to the motor. That’s at the other link below. That DC motor has been a workhorse and I recommend it. It spins at a nice speed too without having to do any speed change. I hope this helps. Let me know any others. I love this stuff!!! monsterguts.com/products/monster-prop-power-pack sciplus.com/12-24vdc-gear-motor-w-pulley/

Modification! A comment made by @bobriemenschneider7426 got me thinking on how to take more tension out of the spider wire. Check it out if you are struggling with that. kzbin.infoNXLoRCSuzG0?si=RBAcyxAQ9tLuwQSa

How do get the spider wire so taught and tie it to itself in the loop?
@bapis
@bapis 8 ай бұрын
For this what I do is string the Spider wire up across the whole run to figure out how much length I need. And then I take the two ends and tie them together but taking like 2 feet or so off the total length. I was a Boy Scout but I forgot all the special knots. So I just do some ghetto knots every possible way to ensure it doesn’t slip. It’s honestly a bit of trial and error to get it nice and tight. If it’s not tight enough, I’ll cut it and redo it, taking a few more inches off. I hope that helps. There is probably some sort of way to add something to the line that you can “cinch” up to tighten it -- but I haven’t figured anything out yet. Might be something I try to find a less ghetto solution to for next year’s project. With a tighter line, and maybe some more frequent but shorter runs, I might be able to increase the size of the ghost(s).

Axworthy Ghost 2023 Bonus Tip::: how to create more tension on the spider wire / ghost line.

what i do is on one of the wheels not the drive position but a satellite wheel i have a bungie cord and then the arm has a hinge so it can move back or forward i then pull the arm as tight as i can backwards my satellite units are on tree trunks so i can position the hook into the tree for the bungie at such a point i can then pull the cord as tight as possible making more tension on the line.

I made this short extra video that gives more details on how the DC power supply connects to the motor. Hope it’s helpful. kzbin.infoPqvmBkpYSPY?si=mtFDEXmlG24PbJMN

Why did you switch to a wiper motor?
@bapis
@bapis 8 ай бұрын
I tried out a wiper motor this year to see if I could get the ghost to go a little bit faster. I had it up and running but after about only an hour of testing the wiper motor pooped out. So I ended up going back to my motor from last year which was a DC motor that has a little wheel already attached to it. That one has been a workhorse - here’s a link to where I got it :::: sciplus.com/12-24vdc-gear-motor-w-pulley/

Great cheesy dad jokes! What did you use for a power supply?
@bapis
@bapis 8 ай бұрын
Haha. Glad you liked the jokes. 😀. I used some little wire nut connectors to connect the motor to a DC adaptor. I had to find a DC adaptor that had the two wires I could connect to. I found it at that American Science and Surplus where I also got the motor (sciplus.com/12-24vdc-gear-motor-w-pulley/). I’ll try to go out and take some pictures of the DC adaptor I have and will post back here tomorrow. Stay tuned.

My issue is trying to keep them light. I tried some homemade ones but they were too heavy for the line. Something to keep working on. 😁💪
