He just didn't understand what normal was or how to act socially due to the environment he was raised in. I'm not even sure if he taught what was morally correct or not, but he is aware that what he does is wrong. He knows what emotions are but doesn't understand emotions. He still attempts to understand emotions though.

I don't think people who have read the LN understand Ayanakoji, he doesn't look down on anyone , although he sees people as tools, he doesn't want to , he wants to be normal and live a happy life , he wants to enjoy his time In his new school until he is forced to return to the white room (atleast that's what he thinks will happen) and he wants to change , he isn't arrogant and doesn't see himself as above anyone else , he is even empathetic at times , even if it's just a little bit , also he helps some people even when it has no benefit to him since he does care about Ichinose , kei , hirata , sudo , Horikita ect just a little bit .

All this could have happened. If in the last volume he had not said that he helps them only in order to reveal their potential. He wants them to have at least some resistance against him.
