So you want her to be interested in him from the start? "I'm a loser MC who has done nothing significant for himself and this is my childhood friend who's in love with me." That's lazy writing and panders to virgin losers, who doesn't want to do anything and wants everything in life to be spoonfed to them. Although you could argue that this story needs more of the perspective of the girl, it still a good story. She sees him as family and rejects him, nothing wrong with that. He worked hard to change things the way they are now so that she would see him differently. That's not being a simp, that's called being in love. If her reason for rejection was "after being together for so long, I only see you as family" and the guy doesn't do anything after hearing that and finds a different girl, then he's still the same as back then; a person who doesn't have any will to change anything. She saw his willingness to change her perspective and fell in love. And even if he still got rejected, at the very least he's a better person than he was before. Basically, MC worked so that he could get what he deserves. That's not a simp, that's a chad.
