So the story of the game is mainly based around mister (the kidnapper), you were actually playing from his POV when he was a kid in the beginning cutscene, and his name is sarao. From the letters you find around sarao's house when renya gets kidnapped, you find out that sarao's mother was very physically abusive and neglectful towards him, (you can even see from the beginning cutscene that sarao is seemingly locked up in a room with boarded up windows until his mom comes in) and that she abused him because he had a similar face to his father, who abused her before he died. Kid sarao snaps and grabs a hammer and kills his mom (which is the same body bag you find in the house, and why there's blood spread all through out the house). Sarao eventually grows up into an adult that is mentally stunted (his brain did not develop past the point of him killing his mother, and he still processes things and thinks as if he were still a kid) due to the severe trauma he endured as a child. This is why he ends up watching renya and his friends playing in the playground, and why he ends up asking to play with them too (because his inner child is still trying to find any chance he can get to fulfill and experience the childhood he truly wanted, but never got). And I know renya's sister got so much hate for doing what she did, but parental love and attention is essential to a kid's mental growth and being starved from it your entire life WILL have severe damage on a kid mentally, renya didn't get the same effects until AFTER her sister left (that's when he started hallucinating an evil clown that he heard from his friends' rumors at school, and hallucinated that he took her away from him, because his brain couldn't mentally accept that she left him of her own free will) and was able to move on just fine from his mother abandoning him because he had her sister there, who was his parental figure and looked after him the entire time, while she had NOBODY. This starvation of parental love eventually drives her to go find sarao and ask him to "kidnap" her and her brother, thinking that she will finally get her mother's love and attention if she does get kidnapped. Sarao listens to this and agrees to help her, because he empathizes with her and got reminded of his own childhood and how he also wished someone would've helped him from his situation, as another one of his coping mechanisms. If you pay attention throughout the game, you realize that not once did sarao try to harm any of the kids he encountered, (renya's sister even vouched that all he's been doing since he "kidnapped" her is give her space and materials for her to cook in the kitchen and left her alone) all he's actually done is try to help them, because of his trauma of child abuse when he was younger. This is also why kohime's mother (who worked at a child guidance center) knew that sarao "meant no harm" when she meets him, presumably because she recognized sarao from when he was a child and already knew his situation and his trauma. You can even see that sarao starts getting ptsd and starts shaking when renya's mother came and started yelling at him bc it reminded him of his abusive mother, and when she pushed him, that's when he snapped and killed her with the hammer. Overall, this is a very intricate game that accurately shows and represents how parental trauma and neglect can severely damage a kid's psyche and mental health, even when they grow up to be adults, and how it clouds their judgement and influences them to do "stupid" or "dangerous" decisions just to get any sort of love, ANY way that they can get. The true villains were the mothers....
