I like this version a lot, plus the video playing in the background too. It gives this feeling of being an Army General, seeing off his soldiers marching in defense of the homeland against the enemy. Truly a bittersweet moment. Sweet because they’re marching forward to defend their homes, family, and land. Bitter because in the end they either comeback changed, missing a limb, or dead, while some to many may never come back.
@ekkovaan2261 Жыл бұрын
Or on the other hand being a soldier, prehaps in enemy lands after a crushing defeat, remembering the promises of glory, the marches, the posters, your recruitment, the comrades you had, those who are dead, those whos fates you do not know, the speeches, talk of "liberating them" and being "welcomed with open arms", marching over the border, the abandoned villages along your path, the hatred in the eyes of the few remaining behind, those who ended themselves rather than seeing your army in their homes, the fierce resistance of the defenders, the bold night raids, the last stands your enemy made against impossible odds time and time again. Always a commander or comrade would come up with an excuse, but its undeniable at this point. You are not the liberators, you are not the good guys, you are simply another kind of opression. Not one man on the front is deluded about that anymore and yet you must still fight, all of you. Its a pointless war, there is no reason for you to want to kill one of the enemy, all you want to do is go home, but you cant. You would be deserting, which is punishable by death. To die according to your principles or to live in opposition to them, that is the question now. To take your own life, to face the enemy and live or die in battle, or to desert and die by execution.

@@ekkovaan2261 perhaps, you are a civilian, a child, staring at the men marching for your homeland, inspired by their might. You do not know the horrors of life yet, you only know to respect your nation, it's values. You might give a "salute" with the wrong arm as a show of respect as they pass. You might boo as POWs pass, unknowing of how they were forced to march. You might wonder where your older friend from another nation went after your small border town was occupied by your nation's armies. You don't really know if you care, though. Your life is good. You still follow traditions of the older days, and fight with no mercy for sovereignty and liberation of your homeland. You lead ambushes from the woods, shell from the mountains, and unleash unconventional weaponry and landmines in the rivers. Long live the old homeland, down to the overlords.

This gives me a feeling like a soldier marching to war, where your superiors have given promises of glory and celebration.

"Do you realize the weight of responsibility I bear, Lieutenant?" The Admiral spoke with a stern yet contemplative tone, his uniform immaculate with subtle insignias of honor and valor. A lifetime of experience etched into his weathered face. The Lieutenant, youthful and eager, listened intently. He could sense that the Admiral had something profound to impart. Was it a lesson in sacrifice? A glimpse into the true nature of war? With a pause, the Admiral spoke again, his voice filled with the weight of countless lives lost. "I have witnessed an endless stream of soldiers passing through my command. Lives sacrificed for the greater good, for honor, loyalty, and duty. Some return, but they are forever changed. None return unscathed." The Lieutenant nodded, beginning to understand the gravity of the Admiral's words. "Even if I were to send you into battle, Lieutenant, you would never be the same." "But, sir, I have already experienced combat," the Lieutenant interjected cautiously. The Admiral's gaze softened, recognizing the Lieutenant's limited perspective. "Indeed, you have. But these men, these infantry soldiers, witness horrors that defy imagination. They face the mangled bodies of their comrades, brothers bonded through shared trials and training. Some are literal siblings, while others are strangers. Yet, they all form an unbreakable bond." A flicker of emotion crossed the Admiral's face as he continued, "And despite the heaviness in my heart, I cannot help but feel a sense of relief when I send them off. For I know that while they may return as mere shadows of their former selves, their sacrifice ensures that others can enjoy the embrace of their loved ones. Families protected from those... those.. monsters." The Admiral's anger flared momentarily, his voice filled with contempt for the enemy. Taking a deep breath, he regained his composure. "They may not return unchanged, but it brings me solace to know that those fuckers will never again inflict their damage upon us, be it in body or spirit."
